is it true that xbox 360 after april are not modable
Or perhaps, Yes.
If it is true this is the first I have heard of it.
Xbox 360s with LiteOn drive is not mod-able. They usually have manufacturer date after April 2008, but not always. I recently stockpiled two 360s with Benq drive, and they're both manufactured in April 2008.
give it some time, just wait a little!
Give it all the time in the world and it won't make a difference. Go read up on the drive , no one is even working on it. It's been designed specifically to combat the firmware hack. Drive never ever lets the firmware leave it.
Time to buy a few 360s then before these are all that are available.
Well BenQ drives used to be unflashable too.
Maybe a modchip could be installed to flash these new LiteOn drives and then taken off afterwards. Well, sounds easy on paper
True , but benqs have commands to let it dump the firmware , they have a separate flash chip as well that could be lifted and done by a programmer. Lite-ons do not , the flash is integrated , they have no commands to make it dump the firmware , and physically don't have an pins that would let the firmware exit anyway. Drive been built for firmware in , but never out.
ebay is a good place to try to find a new xbox from before April 08. i found several sellers willing to tell me the lot number on the 360s they were selling. i just received one such xbox with Lot # 809 that has a BenQ drive in it. flashed and works great!
I think I have a BenQ but I heard it was NOT flashable? Anyone have a link for me on flashing the BenQ? All my research says they are NOT flashable.
Benq is flashable , lite-on is the unflashable one. Confusion probably comes from the fact that some people call the lite-on , "new benq" , where as most call it lite-on to avoid confusion with the old flashable one.
The tray on both looks exactly the same , but if you look in the emergency eject hole and look at the wire , white/grey = benq , yellow = lite-on
Shows the hole to look in , under the picture of the 3 trays .
If you do have a benq then the best guide is
Site is a bit slow at the moment , so if it aint working , then just google for textbook 360 flashing tutorial and hopefully find a mirror.
If you have the lite-on , then you're screwed.
I was looking at that site earlier, it does not mention Lite On, just the BenQ with of which is the one I have (Two white wires)
Bummer, my 360 is loud as fuck ta boot (Well the DVD drive is) I was really hoping mine was flashable
Thanks for the help
BenQ's are flashable
Lite-on's are not flashable
Well that makes no sense
Armadillo referred me to:
then Armadillo told me that the BenQ is really the Lite On?
The site mentioned above does not mention the Lite On.
I have two white wires on my (whole)
I am a bit confused.
Are there currently 4 drives on the market or 3?
or just 3?
other earlier model?
You forgot Hitachi
Ok my mistake I should of made it clearer.
There are four drives for the xbox
Samsung and hitachi are no longer in production , so current boxes either have a benq or lite-on. The lite-on and BenQ look exactly the same (the tray) , only difference is the wires , yellow wires in the hole -lite-on , white wires = benq. The site doesn't mention the lite-on as it's out of date.
You have white wires , there for you have a benq and can flash. So just look up benq flashing guide and away you go.
Well thanks man, appreciate the help. It is good news for me then. Now I'm off to get a Via chipset sata card
