If I understand correctly, original XBOX 1 games need to be burned to DL dvd's in order to work in a flashed 360. If the original game is only a single layer disc, and it's compatible with the 360, then why would a copy need to be on a DL disc? Can someone please clarify for me. Thanks.

The originals aren't single layer. All xbox games were dual layer. Just most of them would fit a single layer after pulling all the files off the disc and disregarding all the fluff (padding etc), won't work on the 360 like that though, so they have to be on dual layers with all the crap left in.
