So yesterday I was in my sisters room.
And all of a sudden the webcam indicator on her laptop turned on.
More than once, it kept coming back but when you least expected it, and it didn't do it in the same pattern, it kept changing the time differences between each blink.
She didn't have any messenger open or anything so why would the light turn on?

Is someone spying on her or something?

Please answer ASAP if anyone knows something about it my sister is freaking out big time! (lol) [IMG]

I would check your computers network usage. Some trojans are known to allow the person to turn on the victims cam to spy on them.

As mentioned above, netstat is good but you have to know what you are looking for and understand the output. I recommend going to this website https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

Click on proceed and then click on All Service Ports.

This will do a port scan of your computer and identify anything suspicious listening on any ports. Post back if you find anything or have any questions.

After that port scan that Lodis mentioned, try scheduling a boot-time antivirus scan. This scans all local disks before Windows starts, hunting down most viruses before they can kick in and hide themselves. I don't know about any other antivirus, but avast! does this nicely.

after you check your net connections run your anti virus to clean your pc out just in case i personally use malwarebytes and it has always caught any viruses i've thrown at it except on a pc with no internet connection but oddly i haven't had any problems with viruses since i dual-booted vista sp2 and ubuntu 9.04 so maybe things have changed with malwarebytes

Make back-ups of important files. Reinstall the computer and install Anti Virus and anti spyware.

Best way to feel secure again.

Cover it with paper amd avoid using the webcam unless necessary. And if the webcam got xray vision, cover it with tinfoil. And yes, I am serious.
