Would you still own a DS if the Flash carts or ROMs didn't exist?

Would you still own a DS or DS Lite if the following things didn't exist?:

    1. slot 1 and slot 2 Flash carts
    2. homebrew games or apps
    3. downloadable roms

So, if all you could get for your DS were games from Wal-Mart, Gamestop, or wherever, would you still spend $130 usd to own one?

No way - wouldn't have bought it if there were such an easy thing like a flashcart... I love playing homebrew games, watch videos and play emulators on the DS + having multiple games on one cart. And I would never pay € 50 for a single game when half the games are not worth buying and others are not appearing in shops.

I'll only buy games I consider innovating on the DS - Metroid Prime was one... and if the Scfi rpg thing announced here recently looks interesting enough and gets published in English, I will consider buying it.

It's impossible for ROMS not to exist to be honest, but in any case...

Yes, as I had one previous to. I've spent too much money to bother though, so heh.

Yes, I had three DSes (and Gameboys and Gameboy Colors and GBAs) for my sons and myself long before I knew about flash carts. We have many commercial carts for all of those.

Of course I would. DS just really has a superb library and I couldn't imagine NOT owning one. It's just really a fantastic system.

Yeah, I already bought my DS, DS Lite, about 8 games before I realized flashcards weren't too difficult to use

Uh, YES! Are you kidding or something?

I plan to still buy the games I really want for my DS anyway.

Yes, of course. The power of the DS is its games. As you can also buy games (which I do, by the way), the DS would be worth its money without a flashcart.

I wouldn't like it as much though; I wouldn't have discovered the Ace Attorney series without a flashcart [IMG]

Why would anyone buy a console specifically for piracy/homebrew (unless you count the gp32/2x)? The fact that there are millions of people who don't have flash carts and probably don't even know that they are, would suggest than 99.9% of people would buy them for store bought commercial carts only.

    me? no.

In asia, most of the game population only buys the console if its feasible for pirating/downloading/whatever

its just not feasible unless you are one of the upper class

Like today for example, its not feasible for me to own a ps3 since i can't afford to buy 60 dollar games. Im looking to sell my wii to buy a 360 though since I want to move on to nextgen graphics and I can flash the thing and just buy/download backups for it
