I'm asking both users, and non-users of Gateway if you would ever trust the company again.
If Gateway released 2.0 final tomorrow and promised they removed the bricking code, would you believe them? If they came out and apologized for the bricks and said they learned their lesson, would you forgive them? What would it take to regain your trust?

    No poll option for me.

For me, fix gateway users and remove brick code/fix it so it doesn't trigger on unmodified launcher would be enough for me.

As long as they take care of Gateway users, then no problem.

As a clone user I would wait about 3-6 months or until a reputable 3DS dev can confirm there's no brick code (if that's at all possible).

enough with these pointless threads already

I'm starting to feel real bad for the staff that has to deal with the new 50 gateway threads everyday along with all the pointless posts (image post, spam, trolling, ect...) in the already ongoing threads

What about all the non-Gateway users they've already bricked? Don't they also deserve your sympathy?
If you see a dead kid on the street, do you think to yourself "Hm, that kid stole a can of Pepsi once, so he deserved to die" or do you think "That's horrible. No kid should die like that".

Sympathy, maybe. Fix by Gateway, nope. Simply for this

R4i/3dslink etc claimed to be original code/work. Some of the defenders went along with this when the clones appeared. Even when it was obvious it was a clone, there was still defense "it might not be etc" and r4i claiming original code.

You can't claim 100% original code and stick to it, while it's all going well. Then as soon as it's going to shit, you want to play "it's a clone" and blame Gateway?

Live by the lies, die by them.

What about the innocent users? Why should they have to "die by them" when they didn't do anything wrong. A lot of them don't browse the forums and werent even aware they bought a clone.

Mt-card would like to have a word with you. Also, clones are 100% safe if you use older firmware.

They have my sympathy. But it's still not down to Gateway to offer them a fix. They should be looking to the R4i/3dslink etc team for their fix.

MT-Card is probably only safe because its code is terribly outdated, which can be observed by having one glance at the game compatibility list. The advantage of having an MT-Card is clever cart design, not so much the software that runs it.
Making sure that the firmware cloners release for their products is not malicious is their work, not Gateway's, whatever transgressions the Gateway team made. Blaming Gateway for R4i/3DSLink bricks is the equivalent of blaming Volkswagen for a car crash caused by shitty aftermarket third-party breaks you yourself installed in your car. They may look the same as the original ones, but they sure as hell don't have to work with the same efficiency.

How can r4i/3dslink provide a solution when they weren't even the ones who wrote the code? Only Gateway truly knows what it does and how to fix it. Yes, the cloners made the mistake of distributing it, but GW are the only ones who can provide a fix for this mess. All eyes are on them. Are they gonna do the cool thing and release a fix for all, or still be immature and refuse to aide clone users?

Right. Who released the firmwares and assured their customers that they are safe to run on their products?

    The cloners? Okay then.

The Gateway team has absolutely zero responsibility over what happens with users who are not using their product - plain and simple. You're knocking on the wrong door, and it doesn't matter if the R4i/3DSLink teams know a fix or not - that's their problem.

I'm a bit divided when it comes to that. While there are no logical reasons to why they would lie about removing the brick code in an upcoming version, I'd have a hard time trusting someone that has gone completely over the top, hitting the wrong target. There's no logic in it, so how can one assume they'll behave logically from now on? Also, the whole thing is so extremely arrogant, playing god and taking the liberty to brick end users consoles for using clone carts, without any warning on top of that. If they added code that made the clone carts running their software generally unstable, fine, but screwing end users over this way?! They won't gain anything from doing it either, it's not like someone that got his 3DS bricked by Gateway would buy anything from them.

I was going to order a GW card just before the rumors started to circulate, but now I'll wait. The foremost reasons is that nothing says that memory corruption or something could trig the brick code on a genuine GW card too, that I don't feel I can trust someone obviously having so little respect for their presumtive customers, and that this kind of crap is nothing I want to encourage by giving them my money.

Waninkoko got a shitstorm of flame for his CFW that could brick PS3s but the difference between him and Gateway is that Gateway included brick code on purpose. There is no forgiving for this, especially when you can't verify that GW really removed all brick code if they claim to have done so.

Under normal circumstances, sure. Your analogy holds up. However, in this case, it would be the equivalent of Volkswagon deliberately designing their car so that if it detects any third-party brakes on the car, it'll automatically disable them whilst driving at full speed, so you die in a fiery car crash. Even if the third-party brakes you bought were high quality and had no fault whatsoever, you VW car disabled them at full speed and killed everyone in the car. VW would be sued to hell and back in such a situation.

    According to them they did.

Well then, looks like r4i team have to reverse engineering to do and work out exactly what it does.

Even ignoring the whole "original code thing". At the end of the day, regardless of what gateway did or didn't do.

R4i/3DSlink etc, took and modified code. Code that they have no idea of what it does and happily distributed among their users. Gateway have no responsibility to the clone users.

Would you argue Gateway should offer a fix if it wasn't apparently intentional and had simply happened as a side effect of clone carts hacking up code that they don't understand? It would still be Gateway who wrote and understood that code.
