While sorting through my house, I came across a bootleg that I recall buying at a market in London back in the millennium.

As a young child, I had my own money to spend because it was a holiday, (vacation in America), I had £15.

The game itself was £5. Luckily they didn't want retail price. (I was pretty much paying for the plastic case).
And of course It didn't work, because for most bootlegs you need to have a modded PS1 unless it was the highest quality of bootlegs where they bothered to make the game work on normal PS1's. In fact the quality of the bootleg was so bad, they didn't bother with a label on the CD:
6670c377a59143a0906fc8505c4060d6.png

That's the CD. It says Spyro 1 on it, because I think at the time i bought it, the guy must've recently burned it on the CD, and at the time there was Spyro 2 out, and 3 was right around the corner.

Now for the case, summed up in 1 word. Shit.
The image quality is more terrible in person, it's blurry as hell. And looks like their printer was low on ink.

Front:
a565271dde594c56abb2b69a51c8c53a.png

They ignored that the sheet was too small for the case.
And it looks like your standard bootleg cover art that is just a cropped image without the legal stuff.

Spine:
7e2ff95fff2a42d680ae084c27b91c40.png

Just black with Spyro The Dragon written down it, nothing interesting.

Back:
07f94842e1dc493894587214ce2532ae.png

This is the funniest part, because they just cut off all the legal stuff, and barcode, and just kept the main attraction.
One thing they did modify is they copied and pasted the controller and player info in the corner.
The hysterical part:
c546b45bd331442c96b44f3c5e4cab7a.png

"SOMY". The bootlegger decided to go and change the N in SONY to an M, to avoid more copyright. This is why I'm keeping this, mainly cause of that reason.

The content of the disc:
As I stated above, I couldn't play it because I had an unmodified system. But now I can run it through an emulator, to see what the disc is all about.
When I boot it up, it comes up with this:
5b9f942d4b144d5a97be8abd0320b7fb.png

A trainer menu? Seems like the bootlegger wanted to give me a nice surprise ;).

But yeah, that's what I wanted to show you, a bootleg gem of mine.. Do you guys own any PSX bootlegs??

Images are broken. But was the Spyro The Dragon legit with that trainer menu?

Reuploaded the images, And yeah, if you were to use a gameshark with Spyro the same cheats would come up, I'll swap trick in a minute and I'll take a picture from my tv, hang on

Honestly I think it's pretty cool you have an interesting bootleg, all mine were nothing more than cds with the name of the game written on them (and the cases usually had no cover on them and if they did they weren't edited in any way). Any chance you could upload a video of the trainer menu (since I'm assuming it has music and I'm pretty fond of cracktro music)? It'd be wonderful if you could rip and upload the bootleg somewhere too, but let's not talk about that here. :ha:

Why? It's nothing special.

It's just an NTSC copy of Spyro with Paradox's +7 trainer and pal/ntsc selector. Just apply the .ppf (the trainer is readily available online) to a copy of spyro and you have the same thing. Waste of time to upload a whole pre-patched image when you can do it yourself.

That's just a pirated copy with a trainer and a shitty case, basically.
Pretty much, just like your typical selling dvds on the street sort of quality.

Just uploaded a video of it to a site, (not youtube cause of things), and heh, I know how to do some things so i modified the boot screen to something else.

The chiptune is one of my favourites I've heard, far better than that Spyro 3 one. It's a shame I can't find any trainers for Spyro 2.

I'm also not that impressed.
Those games where at every flea market around here (and I'm certain that was the case of every country of this part of the world) and every psone was sold modified.
But sure enough that bootleg you got there is a good one, good cd brand (to ensure that the psone laser doesn't do extra effort to read it) and in a nicely printed jewel case. The best pirate copies were the "paraguayan" ones (or at least everyone said that were made there) which were like this:

lol that's actually pretty funny. The seller didn't even really try to pass it off as legit, usually a bootlegger/counterfeiter will only for you to realize when you get home that you've been duped.

Yeah, typical young me was confused about why the game looked like that.
