I have always been wanting to know the answer to this but never get a straight answer

Many people use all different size msd / sd cards in their consoles, personally I have 2 separate 64gb msd cards (I found the 128gb quite slow)

My question is... How much working space (free space) should be left on your card ?

I heard that some large games like SSB require working space, but i rarely play it so don't know

Does anyone know the actual answer to this ?

Or does it not matter at all ?

Incidentally I leave 5gb space on both cards

SSB doesn't need any working space. It stores everything in its extdata, which is always the same size.

A lot. I have a 32GB card, but I only like 2-3 (Plus animal crossing) games on it at time, because that's all I'll ever really play. Then theres probably 6GB of homebrew+NAND dumps.

Never ever knew that, thanks mate, guess it was a false rumour then

So it it fair to say that 1gb or possibly even less would be sufficient as available space or you suggest more ?

1 gig should be more than enough. I doubt you could play all the games it takes to fill the 64 gig sd ;)

I think the 3DS doesn't need any working space at all, it does pretty good SD management. The only thing SSB saves separately are screenshots.

I got a 64 gig on amazon for 20 bucks. It works fine after you format it to fat32

The extra gigs are probably for your emuNAND, mine was like 1.8 gigs

Then you have the new, bigger NAND chip! (1888MB vs. 1240MB)
SD cards have Classes which determine their speed.

I personally use a 32GB SD card which works great, and is under $10!

I was/am more interested in the myth that you needed to leave X amount of space on your card for "working with"

But it does indeed seem to be a myth

One thing I can think of is that you need double the space of a CIA to install it. (Unless you want to do it on the error-prone SocketPunch.)
