My thoughts on this are: $1.92 mil is WAY too much for something that the woman probably only listens to a couple of times. These sorts of fines won't deter pirates but only make them push for a change to the law. Look at whats happening in Sweden with the whole Pirate Party for an example.

It will be overturned on appeal, 1.92 million for such a petty crime will certainly be considered cruel and unusual punishment.

Charging a mother of three up to $1.92 million dollars seem ridiculous. Seems like the recording companies are trying to send a message to the public with this kind of lawsuit.

I saw a news report on this, apparently she was ordered to pay the standard settlement originally which is between $3.000 to $5.000 but she refused to pay that. Its only when she challenged the ruling that the jury raised it to $1.92 million. She can still appeal this ruling, but from what legal experts are saying even if its reduced it will still be a huge amount and nowhere near the $5.000 she could have paid in the first place.

Yeah that is pretty stupid, she's probably had to pay a lot more when you consider legal fees.

What? If someone refuses to pay, you don't add nearly $2 million to pay as punishment, that's completely pointless. Craziness, seems the record labels are baying for blood at this point much like the film industry.

Folks at the record companies can go fuck themselves really, all music based publishers can. They are the same assholes who tell me that I am not allowed to write or obtain transcriptions of songs in guitar tablature when they are just interpretations of songs, yet they threaten legal action against innocent guitar players like me who just want to learn without having to pay out the ass for a book that only has a couple of songs on it that I want. These people are greedy and will stop at nothing to make money regardless of method. I pay for music off iTunes since it's safe and reliable, but that is the only reason I do it, I hate downloading songs for free because I would rather not get caught doing it and besides, I support the artists I like. But the music industry is chalk full of retards these days, so much garbage music that only retards would actually pay for, if you pay for repetitive rap and pop music, you are every bit as dumb as the record companies who promote the talentless douchery of garbage, including the likes of Akon and Britney Spears.

I feel sorry for the woman getting fined so heavily for a nonsense issue, but then again you can thank the folks from Metallica for going up in arms over Napster almost a decade ago.

She most likely doesn't have the money. So she'll lose her house and go on welfare which is paid by our tax's. Really smart. [IMG]
