With CFW, you can do EVERYTHING you already could with the OFW, while also being able to do more, so for future reference, if it's something you can do on OFW, you can do on CFW too!

As long as you don't do something blatantly obvious like pirating a game and then trying to redownload it from the eshop (it happens, some games allow you to "redownload" but it doesn't really work, but can flag you). If you pirate games, at least do it discreetly...

MHXX is Japanese, so you can't even find it on the eshop you know... FreeShop allows you to download anything needed (eg: updates) while "updating through eshop" will ALWAYS fail (most likely at 99% and start over)!

PS: I've had MHXX as favorite game on the Friend List since day 1 it came out and have been playing it lots without any ban, while also playing a TON of Japanese games, so bans for out of region aren't common if existent at all. (I have physical cartridge of it)

That's not the case, people got banned for pirating the game and being too open about it. I'm using a EUR 3DS and many others are using non-japanese ones too! I even hunt with Canta and Mai every now and then when they do viewer hunts on their streams with no problem, same as everyone else who joins them!

DLC is fine and even playing online is fine, don't worry about it. Also, trust me, towards the very end you will most likely need help from people online since mons can get annoying...

Redownloading pirated games from the eShop won't result in a ban, and you can redownload any game that has a ticket. It can't tell the difference.

No you can't, just try it. The download will ALWAYS fail at 99% and start over. MH XX is not available on non JPN 3DS eshop, so can't download it from out of region 3DS.

You CAN however have the game as cartridge (or by changing your region to Japanese, getting it off the eshop and switching the region back to what you had) and try to download the update via the eshop...

region changing only works if you didn't add NNID on the original device, and many times it wont work, also you can't download a title update from the eshop for the game not avaiable in that eshop.

but if that worked for you, then it's strange.

Try installing any game that's out of region for you that you know will ask for an update right away and you will see what I mean. As for the region changing, it's possible, but needs a second 3ds of that region (you basically swap the regions while keeping the NNID through a mountain of work). Not worth the region change but the update thing can happen, try it out. It's not available on the eshop, but you can "download" the update from the home menu before loading the game, it will download to 99% most of the time and fail, but it will never complete.

I have and it still doesn't let you actually download many of the games, it "allows" you to, but download always fails. Again, SOME games can be redownloaded just fine, not all though.
