I have a legit version of XP that came with the laptop. Today it had this error message and I have not been able to solve it. Something wrong with the service.exe and it will shut off in 1 min. Anyone know the solution? Thanks.

That is probably a virus, hate to tell you. Service.exe bad, services.exe good

What happens when you boot in safe mode?

    Do a system restore?

What did you do to your computer that made this happen? Was it working fine and then this happened?

Scan for viruses in safe mode if that is the case

You got a worm. I had the same problem a while back. Forgot the exact name of it but thats what it sounds like you have too.

Screw that last solution i came with, i have a better one:
    Switch to Linux! [IMG]

(Well... i do use windows, but i have linux too, on dual boot, and also BartPE to backup stuff whenever there's something messed up with windows)

    Here's what you do:

As soon as you start up, double click the clock in the bottom right-hand corner, and switch the year from 2007 to 2006(hit ok). Tada! Your computer will now shut down in 365 days instead of a minute.

    (yes this works)

To cancel the shutdown - go to run, and type in "SHUTDOWN -A"
I think that's what it is. It should stop the shutdown sequence. Then go online and get yourself a good spyware remover and antivirus. That's the best advice I can give ya
