Will we ever get a CFW that can launch *.3DS files?

I hate installing CIAs onto my 3DS, because they take forever, and clutter HOME Menu.

If we do, I'm thinking it'd function like Gateway's MultiROM menu, to select your ROM.

It would read off of the SD card, and would probably read itself like a CIA, or it might somehow make it think it's being read off of a game cartridge (cart required, and would probably have an option to go back to the original cart if this is how it would work)

Oh, and if a mod is reading this:
It's obvious this question has gotten no where from all of the people saying "CIAs are better" and all things related to that. If you don't mind, could you please remove this post so that I'm not angering any more people for asking a simple question? Thanks.

probably not a CFW maybe a rom loader app than can be installed as a CIA and then let you chose .3ds files to load
    just like any other system

I'd be fine with that, too

That would be nice, so you don't have to convert your dumped roms.

maybe we'll get a CIA for the 3DS that will install your 3DS onto the 3DS SD card.
No need for computer to convert 3DS to CIA :-)

A universal loader that installed as a single CIA and would open 3DS and 3DSX programs would be nice. Running Ninjhax every time to get to the Homebrew Launcher is a bit of a pain.

That would be awesome, I realy want something like that.
This would also keep the homescreen clean !

I'd love it too, but if you look at practically every developer thread, it's full of messages that say things like "THIS _______ WILL NEVER SUPPORT PIRACY SO DON'T ASK!1!1!!!!11!!!!" Pasta CFW is the best thing we have so far and I'm very thankful for it.

You know you can put cia installs into folders on the homescreen.

Still, if you consider that you have to create xorpads for the ROMs, convert them, transfer them, install them .... takes a lot of time for just one game.
They get backuped as .3ds files, so it makes things a lot easier ... and certainly won't take away the CIA option for peeps who still like them.

    * This.
Why you complain if you got to play (potentially) games for free and then why would you run .3ds anyway, with cia you don't even risk to be banned

PastaCFW uses functionality already existing in the 3DS firmware and only patches a few security checks (that means actually just a few bytes of code do the job). A loader for 3DS files however means adding functionality that was not there before (meaning tons of development work) on top of patching security checks. Judging from the trouble still there with the easier method (.CIA installation, troubles being f.e. SS3D in the N3DS), I doubt that a 3DS rom loader could get become a reality anytime soon. A .3DS installer, on the other hand (meaning a 3DS to CIA converter plus a CIA installer), might be in reach.

The advantages of CIA are so numerous it's staggering. Still, the scene keeps giving us .3ds junk ...
Reform should start with them. There is especially no excuse for butchering eshop content into CCIs.

Considering that nobody made the simplest thing (CIA loading) until someone posted the exact instructions for doing so onto pastebin, I highly doubt it. There are two kinds of people with the skills of doing so: 1) piracy companies who want to make money from ROM loading and 2) hackers who hate whiny kids (who thinly vail their contempt by saying stuff like they're "against piracy").

I think using the home screen for installed games is better than gateway's Multirom menu, because i can easily rearrange games and I can use a grid up to 6x10, but in gw's multirom menu I have that long line of games I have to scroll through.

I'm pretty sure I asked something similar to this on the 3dsdev IRC, and I was told it would not work. Don't quote me here, but I'm pretty sure it had to do with the transfer rate of the mediatype. (Gamecart/SD.) I remember something about the fact that it would attempt to be loaded directly in to RAM if something like this was attempted, and the RAM is obviously not big enough to house a full game.

Then again, my memory of what was said is foggy.

I don't play games online, and I find folders annoying. I don't even use 'em on my iPhone.

I understand what both of you are saying, though

What is safer is up for debate. A 3ds file with a private header is generally considered safe although having a private header that actually matches the game is probably the safest. The potential problem with cia installs is theoretically Nintendo could cross reference your NNID and see you never purchased the game and give you the ban hammer.

Regarding making cia files? I have always felt a sandwich made by someone else tastes much better than one you can make. I let other generous people make cias for me. :)

    Yes, I know that.

I also know that, if someone actually wanted to try to make this, it wouldn't come out in a few months. Heck, it'd probably take close to a year(?) to do this, if it was possible (given the information Slushie3DS said.)

It could be possible to install 3DS to the SD card and run from home menu without computer...
