Years from now I imagine the Switch will be the next PSP in terms of hacking. The PSP was an absolutely amazing hacked console. Can't even imagine how amazing the Switch will be. I feel hacking the switch is super easy and seeing the progress made since day one to now especially when the Switch is still quite a new console is astounding!

It's already better in that the Switch is both a stationary console and a portable one, hence easier playing homebrew with others without having to own two of the same system and all that nonsense.

Yes, I do miss the days of having to reboot the web browser 50 times, because the screen color was the wrong color, and having to clear all my browser data over and over and over and over again!

The start of 3DS hacking was crazy tough. Using Cubic Ninja, then Freakforms + dabbling with NANDs an injections for the first time... Ouch. It used to take a few hours to get it all done.

The Switch is way easier, unless some trouble happens during the process.

Small note, shorting pin 9 and 10 also works. I couldn't get the paperclip method to work for the life of me, but tinfoil on pin 9 and 10 worked first try.

You should have seen ChickHEN on the PSP if you didn't. That shit had a success rate of like 1%.

Guess I just need to read more. I'm waiting on my 256gb card and my jig+dongle combo and I think I have an unpatched unit. Bought it 2nd hand in June last year.

I was worried about this since getting into the 3ds scene got easy really fast. I stepped in around the time a9lh was already discovered and got to install cfw on 6 systems. The first used ninjhax on the qr code exploit, the next 2 used the system transfer, then the last 3 got way easier with soundhax.

I know the switch scene exploded with the rcm exploit. But I'm excited to see it gain steam. Thank you everyone.

I thought this as well, but a Reddit user made someone decent points refuting that idea due to smartphones now:

"You see, the PSP was right before widespread smartphone use, so a PSP with homebrew filled in the gaps of a portable device with internet access, videos, music, games and then a bunch of homebrew apps and ports.

Now everybody uses a phone, why bother making homebrew apps that will be more clunky and less effective than their iOS/Android equivalents?

What I can see happening is the Switch becoming the ultimate emulation machine: Finally a great HD screen, really powerful CPU/GPU, detachable wireless controllers with two analogue sticks, and the ability to play portable or docked."

    Have I missed something?

3DS easier than Switch? Do me a lemon. Did one about 18 months ago.

Finding the right game, downloading certain stuff from the shop... Reading for hours... All these walking-on-eggshell steps...

If things have changed a lot then please ignore me.

But a piece of wire, a USB cable and an SD card... Whats hard about that?

Thing is, with rumors gaining more traction that we're getting essentially a GBA SP equivalent of a console redesign (better battery life, more portable friendly, and a slimmer build or something), everything is subject to change. Yes, the launch Switch models may be easy to hack, but don't count on that being the future, especially now that the cat is out of the bag.

Also, I kind of have the same issue where I check out for a few months, and now, ReiNX is considered old news, it's all about the Kosmos Master Race, which uses atmosphere, but any homebrew ran with every solution doesn't use the full RAM of the Switch or something because you don't have a totally legit copy of a game installed on your dirty Switch to trojan horse the Switch into using the full RAM and potential it has to run everything without crashing, especially if said program is running while the Switch is docked. *looks at OpenBOR port on the Switch*

It seems like things are always changing, which is life, nothing you can do about it, but for me, the difficulty with hacking the Switch comes from figuring out whether my console will boot back up, whether the Switch needs to have the payload re-installed after every crash because you were trying to vainly get the Switch to use all of the RAM when all I really want to do is eliminate the overhead of Horizon and use Lakka for my hacked Switch (which is essentially a tablet for when I'm bored on the go) with how further along it is than Horizon's advancements in terms of the systems emulated, but was disinterested until recently because Lakka had no sound coming from the Switch itself. It still has a ways to go before it's the best solution, of course. (Dock and wireless controller support comes to mind).

Easier if you put it that way but compare an already configured (for hacks) 3DS console to a fully configured Switch... example, every time you shut down your device/s and turn them on again you would feel like your Switch is missing something, while your hacked 3DS will feel just like an regular legit and untouched (non-hacked) retail 3DS console which also can go online without getting banned (if you are smart enough which isnt a big deal in this case).

If you wanna see "ease" go look into the gba/ds/psp scene. (could even argue ps1/ps2/dreamcast)

    nope
I feel like Switch hacking is the easiest hacking I've ever seen in a console next to the Original NDS. Maybe I am just more technical, but it was super simple, insert clip into right side of Switch, boot with Vol+, plugin and run payload app. That's it lol

Why are you even doing this? For XCIs? I install everything over USB and only reboot my switch when I'm updating fw or atmosphere

no it will never reach the 3ds level ever. 3ds cfw is permanent & can be installed on all 3ds & 2ds models old & new.

it's going to be more like a PsVita level

Arm9loaderhax was achieved 5 years after the 3ds was released, boot9strap was achieved much further. The switch is only 2 years old and we already have a bootrom exploit, yes it's not untethered but as I said, the switch is still young. We can't say for sure that it will reach the 3ds' level or not but I'm rooting for the former.

I've read that AutoRCM drains the battery waaay too much! :/
And also decreasea the battery life over time :/
