Emulation Will HVCA work with the 3in1 expansion?

Has anyone got it to work yet? If so, than what the hell am I doing wrong. After I compile, I get the hvca.bin file which will boot in VisualBoy Advance but if I try to run it on my 3 in 1 it just hangs on a garbled Gameby Advance intro screen.

Can anyone confirm that it works with the 3 in 1?

Don't forget you can also use HVCA to playback NSF files, which is (to my knowledge) the only way to play them on a GBA outside of Pogoshell.

True, true. HVCA is great. I still can't get over the FDS emulation and I really wish someone would update it (at least the sound becuase that's the only reason I want to play FDS over NES) or at least port it to DS.

The NSF support was the main thing for me. Prior to that, I had attempted several ways of getting NSF music to run in PocketNES, with varying degrees of success. I actually managed to convert several NSF files to *.nes roms that played back the music, which did work, but it was a lot of effort and only worked on certain games. I looked into the "NESA Player" but found NESA files to be nearly impossible to find, though the visualizations are pretty cool. I then found HVCA and found inner peace >_>

That's awesome, I'm going to check out those links when I get off work. A few years ago I found a program by Richard Bannister called Audio Overload. It worked really well for Mac (which I had at the time) and you could export all files as WAVs which I would later convert to MP3s. The best feature was the ability to designate the length of the song when exporting and you could even fade out the end. You could also separate the tracks which was great for sampling. I even made a dub of the level 5 music in SMB3 called Question Block.

Unfortunately, this program sucks total ass for Windows (which I'm using now) and has none of the features of the Mac version. I'm still looking for a decent NSF/SPC player for Windows that doesn't rely on WinAmp but it doesn't really matter because I've already made CD copies of every NSF or SPC that I would ever want to listen to.

Heh, guess I'd better update the "NSF to NES conversions" page since I actually did make a few more out of sheer boredom. Shame that the process doesn't work for bankswitched NSF files or else I'd have done the Chocolate Rain NSF in an instant.

As for playing them back, I usually use Winamp, though when I need to show NSF files to other people I usually just package in SlickNSF since it's a single executable file that's easy to include in a *.zip file. Very few features, but easy to use for those who have no clue what NSF files are or how to play them.

EDIT: Alright, updated the page to include a few more completed works plus instructions on how to make your own. Seems complicated, but after you do it a few times it gets relatively easy.

That's pretty cool, I'm definitely going to try that out this Saturday. I haven't used Winamp since '98 so it's kind of hard to see myself using any of the plug-ins for it. I wish there was a program like Audio Overload for Windows. I really like being able to separate the tracks and I haven't found anything that will let me do that besides NT2 (which I can't figure out for the life of me).

If I want to listen to stuff that I don't have on CD or in my iTunes, I usually just put it on my DS and play it in Moonshell.
