Does the screen go blank or do you get to see the "You'll need the classic controller" screen?

actually i was getting both. i just tested some more and heres what ive found. i tested all 4 of those games 5 times each using 247.
smash bros, paper mario, and kirby all loaded like 4 out of 5 times just fine... so i guess using 247 does work.. just not perfectly it seems..? but i can live with that if thats the case.
majoras mask on the other hand doesnt work AT ALL. no matter how many times i tried it using 247 or default(249).

edit: ok well i tried a different copy of the majoras mask.wad and got it to work. just like the others, it will load up like 4 out of 5 times correctly. which is good enough
for now. heh.

I had a hard time getting those to work with 38rev17 (our only choice, really). They do fail on occasion and there was a time when they would fail almost constantly. What seemed to stabilize it somehow, was to extract the nand directly to the hard drive you use on your Wii, rather than to your PC first, to avoid any possible tampering from Windows. This was tip from nicklessguy and I can't think of a real reason as to why this would work, but it seemed to help me.
Also, Majora's was the most troublesome of the bunch so I'm glad you beat that one into submission. Again, there may not have been anything wrong with the wad and possible the simple action of deleting it and installing it again did the trick. This is all really touchy, when it comes to those games and 38rev17.

Finally, if you ever plan to play MotoHeroz, make sure to make a forwarder ISO for it, that calls for IOS 247. The game does not work with d2x. With 38rev17 you lose the ability to go online, but at least you can play it. The game supports download of temporary courses to race in, so if you really want to try that, you could install it in your real nand.

Regards.

i made the switch from this to emulated nand, to everyone contemplating it, its well worth it. especially with Wiiflow, that is now my loader of choice. Its buggy but works for the most part. its more reliable than having cIOS38rev17 in slot 249, d2x has made vast improvements to it.

i appreciate all the work put into this iso forwarder program you served my needs for a couple years! thanks for all the work

(i guess this is my farewell to this program)

I like the convenience of doing this with Wiiflow on emulated nand and the fact that the games load much faster, but you will lose the following by abandoning the forwarder ISO method:
1. you won't be able to play wiiware games online, through emulated nand
2. no MotoHeroz, Paper Mario, Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros. and many others that don't work on d2x (you may not care, though)
3. can't have your WiiWare/VC in the same coverflow as disc games
4. long coverflow loading times with a high number of wiiware/vc games (reported by nicklessguy)

To me, #1 is a deal breaker.
Per Tristar, as of version 8alpha41, you can now use ISO forwarders on the latest wiiflow, even though IOS reload blocking is enforced, so you could have both, as an alternative. Of course, the real nand is always available for problem games, though you can't have many of them there.

I agree with everything you said. wad2iso forwarding is the way to go. ALSO, I use CFGUSB with the wad2iso forwarders. When I use wiiflow rev304, it takes like 30 seconds for the wiimote to turn on once wiiflow has started up. Its an extremely annoying delay. Do you have this problem as well themanuel? CFGUSB seems to work right away :) And I havent figured out how to use emulated nand with wiiflow anyway... I have the nand folder on my hard drive with some wads installed but it doesnt seem to recognize it, eh.

That is because you are using rev304, and nand emulation was not supported then. Use the Nightly Build (417) which you can get from the wiiflow wiki front page. Don't grab 417 from the normal repository of old versions. It's broken.
Then, if you really want to use wiiflow, upgrade to d2x version 8 beta 41. In that version, loaders are not required to disable the block IOS reload feature.

If you use the wiiflow version I mentioned, using emulated nand will be a breeze because you already have an emunand setup. Just point to the channels icon in wiiflow, and click B on your wiimote, instead of A. This will load the stuff installed in your emunand. The problem will still be that you won't be able to play online from emulated nand. The only way to do it right now is through the forwarder ISOs, for some unknown reason. The d2x dev is looking into it, though.

Although you can easily re-sync Wiimotes at the loading "don't forget to use the wiimote strap" screen before any game ;)

Personally, this only happens once in a blue moon so not really a problem for me at all :)

In my case, when it loses sync, all 4 wiimotes do and I have to use the red buttons to resync, since not even a reboot fixes it.
Yesterday I had it happen 3 straight times. It might be a different situation to yours.

I vaguely remember an issue about this ages ago.
I found that by Synchronizing all wiimotes so they were all on at once (with the red button), then starting a game on emunand and Synchronizing them so they were all on at once again, in the same order (with the red button, the problem didn't happen too often.

Then I read something that identified the file that holds the wiimote info and copied it to the emu nand and haven't had an issue since
Cant remember the link to that thread though, sorry - but it is fixable

/EDIT: Here it is...
or sync with real nand and backup your real nand and copie \shared2\sys\SYSCONF to your \shared2\sys\SYSCONF on your emu nand

Thanks a lot for posting about this. That makes a lot of sense.
I'll investigate where this file is and copy it over to my emunand.
That would explain why sometimes my black wiimotes disconnect, but not my white ones.
The nand I use for emulation was dumped before I bought my black wiimotes.

Hey themanuel, do you have this problem?? whenever i exit out of mario64, mariokart64, zelda ocarina of time, zelda majoras mask, OR zelda ocarina of time(gold edition), the wii locks up. and then i have to manually restart the wii with the power button. those are the only VC games that do this for me...

Same here. I noticed the other night. However, I attributed to the slot 247 we use for some of those. I did not realize it happens with SM64 as well. I'll double check.
Nice find with OoT v1.0 (gold)! I was looking at that 20 minutes ago.

Yes. Last night I checked the Castlevania issue and could not get it to work with either, d2x or 38rev17, so no nand emu for this game, at the moment. However, you could install it to real nand and build a forwarder ISO that launches from there. It's one of the options in settings screen you get from Wad2ISO. This way you can still have it along with your other wiiware in your loader.

I haven't played enough of Contra Rebirth to confirm that problem.

oh awesome! u can have a forwarder to an installed game on real nand? man thanks for the info! didnt know u could do that :D
That's what I plan to do for this game. MotoHeroz works with 38rev17, but without access to the internet (to get daily tracks), so that's another good candidate. If you clear enough space on the real nand, you can fit quite a bit of problematic games there.

Have you run into any other games that fail on emunand?

I still want to play Contra to see if I get the crash after the second level, if I survive that long (darn aliens!).

Thanks again for your tip. I have not had any more issues, since I resynced the remotes in the fashion your recommended. If I do have problems, I know where to find my sysconf file. It can be easily updated without having to dump the whole nand, by extracting it with FSTools (very carefully). The same with the file that holds your wireless network ID and password, in case you change either. There is another config file that can be updated from the real nand if you change either of those.
