I am not sure if anyone is aware, but there is still a right analog (DualShock) range issue when using the GC controller's C-stick. Ape Escape is not fully functional.
Have you tried playing with the analog stick sensitivity adjust option in Settings > Input > Configure Buttons?

hey all, i've been playing on my wii u with overclocked forwarder, which runs most of the games very well.

i use dithering on "default", 4:3 image, trap and bilinear filter set to on. i set wii vc launch to be 480p 4:3. even though this softens the image a bit, this seems to give the best results on 1080p and 4k TVs. it's my understanding deflicker is for CRT only. if i turn off binleaner and trap, the pixels look a bit to hard, and the small text is tough to read. can anyone else comment on their experience with modern TVs and Wiistation (ie, TVs that can only do 480p, no 240p)? Thanks.

Yes a lot of text on old PlayStation games were designed with the expectation there would be some kind of blurring effect to act as antialiasing, but the blurriness makes 3D graphics hard to distinguish unfortunately. Hopefully the OpenGL renderer makes it so that we can have soft UI elements but sharp 3D graphics.

I use wii2hdmi on my LG 4k TV, I disabled all the wiistation filters, I use force 16:9.
For me the image was good, but I configured the TV to get a better image.

Speaking of dithering, what is the difference between 'Default' and 'Full'? I mean I know what video dithering actually does by cleaning up those ugly rainbow artifacts in some (all?) textures.

And on the topic of hardware rendering, does this mean we might be able to (optionally) double the internal game resolution to make it render in actual 640x480p and look like the PSX emulators on PC?

I think Default refers to try to adjust dithering according to the game, and Full (Always) is to force Dithering to be always enabled.
In most cases, for WiiStation, the option must be on None/Off (unless the game needs it, ex. Silent Hill).

Since we're talking about resolutions on the upcoming GX hardware-accelerated renderer, i think it would try to render at 640x480 at 480p/480i, i'm not sure (correct me if i'm wrong).

PS: New WiiStation build coming maybe later.

From my experience, most games that I play use dithering, so I prefer to keep it on unless the game is really slow. Even the BIOS boot uses it and, if disabled, looks a bit worse. Especially the orange Sony diamond logo.

I also need to let people know who use the PSP 6.60 PS BIOS, is that it can cause compatibility issues. It may not count as much, but a few OPM demos I have tried cause the emulator to boot back to HBC when using this BIOS version. I now use the one dumped from a PSX I used to own; an SCPH-9001. There is a tool on psx-dev that can do this. https://www.psxdev.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=395

Playing with 4.0 Beta (was there an official yet?). Noticed a couple of things without even going into the new soft GPU plugin.

- Contra Legacy of War no longer has the hang up at the character select.
- Ergheiz no longer has the slanted screen glitching at the menu and in the game. It's playable now.

Apart from those two, still seeing the various little glitches and idiosyncrasies in my go-to test games that I've seen in previous versions. As for dithering. I have noticed some games have issues if you have it on at all. Diablo doesn't run full speed and the background music has synch glitches with it on. I always turn it off when installing a new version of this emulator.

Tinkered with the new soft GPU plugin and haven't really noticed anything. Which games benefit from this?

Games which needs New GPU plugin (gpulib+DFXVideo) for play them correctly on WiiStation (incomplete list):
  • This is Football 2 (PAL exclusive) (if on Old GPU, it crashes after the FMV intro)
  • Crash Bash (if on Old GPU, the Pause menu won't render correctly)
  • Bomberman Fantasy Race (if on Old GPU, the game won't display the Retry/Quit menu when you lose a race)
This list is not complete cause i think some other games also need New GPU in order tu fully working.

You can add Thrill Kill to that list. The initial warning screen telling you which buttons to press to continue doesn't show on the old GPU but does show on the new GPU. It used to show in 3.2.

Latest WiiStation builds as of August 11, 2024

main
branch compiled until https://github.com/xjsxjs197/WiiSXRX_2022/commit/a99a7cffc59906c64b8c675ff5cd0ca2308ce610

What's new:
- Update Lightrec to latest until git e610a95 (pcercuei)
- Merge PCSX-ReARMed's TurboCD logic, replacing the old code of Fast Load. Now Fast Load function will use the TurboCD code from PCSX-ReARMed, which has the same puropse: speed up loading times.
- Update libCHDr, ZStandard, and PCSX-ReARMed latest updates.

opengxGpu branch (with all changes from main) compiled until https://github.com/saulfabregwiivc/WiiStation/commit/0f1ad7cff275f5d49f1ca155afb05c6c509d8354

All changes from main branch, plus some changes until this point (commit) mentioned above for reflect the new changes in the upcoming GPU GX plugin, based in OpenGX.
Still imperfect graphics. Textures broken; some games won't even render at all.
DON'T TOUCH any GPU option when using this build.

Please test these builds, thanks ;)

IMPORTANT: DELETE ALL YOUR OLD SETTINGS AND settingsRX2022.cfg FILES BEFORE TESTING ANY BUILD!

You can add Thrill Kill to that list. The initial warning screen telling you which buttons to press to continue doesn't show on the old GPU but does show on the new GPU. It used to show in 3.2.
v3.2 has the New GPU plugin before xjsxjs197 added both GPUs to be selected as an option in the GUI.
Also, good point with that game.

@SaulFabre

I tested the previous build before this recent one you posted with Ape Escape.

The results:

1. Increasing the Analog deadzone allows you to swing the items properly.

2. However, even without adjusting those settings, there is an odd issue that causes, when the character is running, the camera to turn on its own in a way it is not supposed to.

@SaulFabre The newest build as of your above post breaks fast loading with Tenchu 2 (NTSC-J). If it breaks this, it will break others. I do not usually use the option, I just wanted to test it on some games.

(The DOL, at least the newest one with the software render contains the text "2xSaI". Is this old and redundant, or are there plans to add this this filter? Or possibly leftover from the Wii64 UI)

The new TurboCD option code was merged from upstream PCSX-ReARMed, so it's better to also try Fast Load (Turbo CD) option in the RetroArch version of PCSX-ReARMed for see if it has the same issue too when using TurboCD...

it's old and redundant text, possibly trash left from Wii64 UI. Fun fact: after the release of Wii64, the original devs (Wii64 Team) used the same MenuV2 UI for WiiSX.

Speaking of user interface, can we get an option to change the font size? I honestly prefer the slightly smaller text from the old WiiSX versions, though I do like the new UI overall with the cleaner-looking interface and nice background.
