Okay I've decided to give the Wiinja a try. However, I would feel much more comfortable soldering a socket in, and just putting the Wiinja chip inside of that.

I just wanted to make sure that what I was looking at was the right thing- this is the right size socket to insert the Wiinja chip into, right?

Looks right to me. Why exactly would you want to do this? So you don't harm your Wiinja?

I'm a little worried about soldering the legs of the Wiinja chip, since they're so close together, so I assume it would be safer to do it to a socket, rather than directly to the chip.

I hope you realize that the points on the board are ten times smaller and close together than the legs of the chip.

Yeah, but if I use the socket, then I would kind of minimize my chances of failure by giving me less opportunity to screw up, by buying a part for under a dollar.

i think it is a good idea! specially if a new chip will come around the block, it will be more easy to replace

I wouldn't buy a socket thinking that a future modchip could just plug in its place, as they will likely be of a different size or use different solder points, but I agree it's a good idea to use a socket to protect your Wiinja.

Is there room for the Wiinja and a socket in the Wii? Where should it be placed?

Thank you for that picture. I asked about that in another thread but nobody answered me. I was planning on going this route myself.

I like this idea a lot, that is great placement of the chip too. I'll be picking one of these up.
