Hardware Wiimote died in its sleep

Played my wii last night, today i pick up the remote and nothing, no-one has touched it, swaped batteries and still nothing, nothing at all, no lights, no flash when trying to sync, nothing checking with a camera

How does a wiimote die overnight just sitting there ?

maybe batteries leaked into it, or try cleaning the battery connectors with pure alcohol
