Hi all...

bought my console from someone who used the WiiKey.

I no longer do, and have bought a fresh shiny COD Black Ops,

but i get an error 002

Wii Firmware is 4.2e, PAL Console, PAL Game.

Can i use the 1.9s update from wiikey website and unplug so far through to scramble and effectively disable the chip?

http://www.ehow.com/how_5043183_disable-wiikey.html

Any other suggestions?

Not been involved with anything like this before so please bear with me, any help greatly appreciated!

If the game is loading to a black screen you may need to update to ios used by that game. You can use bannerbomb to load dop-mii (not wiibrew edition)patch ios36 and install an updated ios file. CODBO runs on IOS57-64-v5918, once the ios is updated the game should work. You do not need to update your wiis system menu to get any game to work, and you should not update past 4.1 as 4.2/4.3 will disable to region ability of your modchip.

Here is an example guide to update your ios files via bannerbomb without patching any ios. You just need bannerbomb v1 or v2, MMM or wadmanager(no ios reloading version), and the ios wad you need to install.
1- download nus downloader, download and pack to wad the needed ios.
2- Save this wad to sd:\wad
3- Download bannerbomb, 3.0-4.1 can use v1, 4.0-4.2 can use v2. Copy the bannerbomb files to the sd card, you should have sd:\private\
4- Download Multi-Mod Manager, copy the MMM boot.dol to the root of the sd card, you should have sd:\boot.dol
5-Run bannerbomb, put the sd card in the wii. BBv1 is run from data management, channels, sd card. BBv2 is run from the sd menu of the wiis main channel menu. Load the boot.dol and MMM will load.
6- Select wadmanager, navigate to sd:\wad, install the desired wad file.

After installing the needed updated wad your game should load. You must be careful not to muck up your system ios file. Don't mess with ios20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90- these are system ios and are not used to play games- so leave them alone.

For Call of duty black ops, install IOS57-64-v5918 and have fun.

Remember to never update from disc or online as this will remove your region free ability in your chip and possibly break it as some have reported disc loading issues after updating with an install chip (usually wiikey).

has anyone else got some input for this?

My chip is faulty... Is there any other way of scrambling it so its unrecognisable without removing it?

Ive paid £40 for a game, I can't return it anymore since the packaging is open ansd I can't play it either!

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
