Just found this info from the official site. www.wiikey.cn

[07.03.20] Clones report and upgrade news

It came to our attention that there are clones of the wiikey chip in circulation. There are already different versions of clones. The best way to identify a clone is to check the IC printing removal. We made a small survey to identfy the clones, please click here.

You can find the most outrageous cloners at www.wiikey.com.cn - they are in no way affiliated with the original wiikey team.

Many clones do not work properly and do not surpass the same quality checks as the original wiikey. Some clones already fail when booting the upgrade discs. It is very doubtful that they will work with original wiikey future upgrades - in fact the wiikey team will put all efforts into making the disc upgrades incompatible with any kind of clones. There are also clones that get defect after a few days of operating time. The improvement of the config disc and the development of software upgrades is only guaranteed when using an original wiikey. Our RMA policy is not valid for clones. If you are not sure if you bought a clone or not just contact us - we will help you to identify it.

Support the origin development and the future compatability.

A new version of our bootable config disc will be available soon. It will for the first time feature our disc dumper, which can be used with a simple sdcard adapter. On top of that we included some of the most popular gamecube homebrew apps! And yes, the first firmware update is already being worked on. Stay tuned!

WiiKey team have made another update here -

    [07.03.20] SD backup feature news

Here is just a quick news round up regarding the SD backup feature:

The new config disc with the SD backup feature will be released within this week. Both GC and Wii discs will be supported. It requires the use of SD card adapter such as the "GECKO" adapter or a self made version like:

What does the SD Adapter App thing do?

SD Gecko is something you plug into your Gamecube saved game port, I'm guessing they found a way to access the data on the Wii drive in GC mode and copy stuff off even if its a Wii game. Too bad you'll probably need a 4GB+ SD card to copy the game unless you can copy it to multiple sd cards.

If you've got an SD Adapter for the GC you can already dump GC/Wii games without having to use the Wiikeys SD backup feature.

Are you sure you can backup both Wii and GC games as Wii dumps would have come out rather quickly if you had been able to dump Wii games in GC mode.

So you need a SD card adapter so that you can stick an SD card, which is larger then 5GB, into a gamecube memory card and then dump games onto that? I have the feeling if you don't have everything together already it might be easier and maybe even cheaper to just go buy an LG drive...

I agree. The LG drive is $25. Buying a larger SD stick and modding a GC Memory cart seems like a waste of time and money.

I doubt you'll be required to have a large SD card. You'll probably have to dump it in chunks that will fit on the size of SD card that you have and then re-join them on your PC.
