Hacking Wiikey + update = Brick ??

Hi guys,

Somebody told me his wii is bricked.
Did an update from disc and then, kaboom ... it's bricked.

I think he did an update from an NTSC disc on a PAL console. LOL
pretty stupid...

Is there any way back to recover this?
There is a wiikey installed.

Wait...An out-of region update should only cause a SEMIbrick.
