Hi, I was just wondering why the speed on these backup loaders is limited to 3x only..
I'm a bit retarded when it comes to Wii HomeBrew at the moment, so go easy on mehh xD

dvd drive firmware limitation = hardware limitation in my mind

because it can not easily be modified through homebrew software

In all honesty, I'd be happy with 3x speed or get a wiiclip

Thanks

Is there any rumour of the feature being worked on in the future?

Code:
+ 3x speed is not a limitation, but a default for the Wii drive. The speed is variable from 3x to 6x and can be set via software.

+ Neither DVDx, nor the Custom DIP set the register that controls the drive speed, thus it remains default.

+ The Wii DVD drive does not have writable firmware.

Been "Ambitious" but to most probably "Fail" yes they are hoping to be able to crack it*, But it is something that is not possible at the moment, even with the best of coders....
Again as you know the only "way" is a modchip, and if you want 6x speed you would get one, they are cheap and look how good the new chips are!

QUOTEWell wiigator said he was trying to get 6x speed.
They all say that, "6x speed is impossible without cheating the drive (we would need to find an exploit, hard, the firmware is a very small software and probably with no bugs)."

Ah I see

That's explained a few things

So is 6x the default for retail games though?
Isn't that why movies are choppy on backups, because they're only run at 3x?

If I'm right in thinking I know what you mean... Then, the retail games, are proper, legit, Nintendo DVDs. Right? The Wii knows to run these games at 6x by default. However, backups are DVD±R/RW, and the Wii cannot play these types of disc by default. So, the coders had to make it run them via homebrew software. But because these are not proper Nintendo DVDs, the Wii does not know to play them at 6x. And controlling the DVD drive's speed is extremely difficult via homebrew.
So... Yeah

. That would be why.

Wow, I just explained something I didn't even know till a little while ago
