Hi

Im currently facing some issues when trying to use Wiiflow on the vWii (Wii U), I downloaded the latest release from the GitHub, extracted it on the Root of my SD card, then downloaded the Rhapsodiii Theme and extracted it to the "wiiflow" folder. Also installed the Wiiflow forwarder for the vWii

But when I open Wiiflow (either from the forwarder channel or HBL), it just sends me to a black screen, and then back to the vWii menu or HBL menu

I have installed and reinstalled the cIOS the way it is recommended here on Wii Hacks Guide (The cIOS part for the vWii)

Can anybody help me?

Edit: also try usbloader gx or cfg usb loader
Well, I just fixed it by getting an older Wiiflow Lite version, 5.5.3 instead of 5.5.4 and it worked out correctly (I did this because someone commented on this thread that "The new WFL 5.5.4 has major problems" or something like that)

I'll do the SysCheck thing and come back with an update

I had an issue where It would not recognise my HDD being connected whatsoever so I reverted to 5.5.3 and all was fine
i'm curious what kind of HDD you have and what is formatted as? did you format it and how? what app?

its possible your HDD does not have a MBR and we added a feature to skip HDD or usb devices without a MBR to help skip wii u drives which do not have a MBR. GPT drives do still have a MBR.

I have a Western Digital Passport 2TB, formatted fat32 with Ease US Partition if I remember correctly.

That does sound like what’s happening though, something with the new WiiFlow doesn’t want to recognise the drive anymore 👀 I tried getting around it for hours but gave up in the end :( still, 5.5.3 is awesome also and does what I need it to do 😁

I can report that I am on the latest Wiiflow v5.5.4-1 and it runs great as expected - although I am using SD card only setup!

For anyone experiencing issues with a HDD on latest version, I suggest testing it with an out of the box, start from scratch Wiiflow setup. AND - test another HDD if you have one.

Thats quite bold of you to say for someone using an SD Setup only LMAO

I cannot find anything on this subject.

As you can see, I have a lot of VC & WiiWare Games.

Surely there’s a faster way to install all these wads on WiiFlow than having to manually install each file and go through 120 pages..

Please can anyone help me?

so what's wrong with wfl v5.5.4-1? the only thing i know of is that a few people say it won't start for them (it just returns to system menu or HBC).
Hi fledge68. I tell you. I have met at least 10 people who experience the same thing. The USB is not detected. I have been lucky and 5.5.4-1 works perfectly for me. But, I have been told about these problems (and even shown them to me). It happens in most cases when starting Wiiflow from USB. And in several cases where Wiiflow is used from the SD, the problem is with the Wii games. Wii games won't run, and wiiflow reloads... even with consoles with flawless syscheck. Everything is solved by returning to 5.5.3. These problems that I mention do not occur in beta 2 of 5.5.4. If I can be helped by asking these people to do the tests you need, it will be a pleasure for me to help.

I've been testing a fresh install of the latest Wiiflow v5.5.4-1, no themes, no extras, straight out of the box - loading a few Wii and GC titles off of an Samsung M3 1TB HDD. So far, no issues, all running as expected.

I'm not saying that the latest wiiflow version is bug free or that people's issues are not legit, sounds like something may be up! But for anyone having issues that wishes to be on the latest version, I would recommend undergoing some basic diagnosis testing, e.g. a fresh bare bones install, trying an alterative HDD, to narrow down the issue - this should help give people's report more credibility if nothing else. Hope this helps someone.

Tested on original wii, Wiiflow lite v5.5.4.1 using d2x-v11-beta1

ShowMiiWads is a PC tool I have used to batch install wads to emunand before- https://github.com/WiiDatabase/showmiiwads-mod - backup before you use.

backup before you use
Thank you for being so helpful, someone else recommended I use this software also. I kept getting a (Not Responding) error and thought it was a crappy application but I tried again, just left it, and it seemed to have done the trick overnight!

BTW.. when you say 'Backup before you use' what exactly do you mean by that? Right now I am in the middle of transferring over my 128bg sd to a new 512gb and I never backed anything up before I used this showmiiwads and now I am scared

LMFAO, okay okay.. how big are we talking? ;)

AlexM80 - And in several cases where Wiiflow is used from the SD

@fledge68 This is my situation. HDD is for Wii & Gamecube only, and SD is for everything else. Will not recognise my HDD in any version of WiiFlow Lite after 5.5.3. Im also here if you want me to do any tests mate, let me know!

Same here. 5.5.3 reads FAT32 1 partition MBR HDD without problems, any newer release does not read the HDD. Same drive setup I've used for countless USBLGX setups, and no, not just beating my head on my desk trying the same HDD over and over, this is with 4 test drives. Let me know if there's any testing I can do or more info that can be given.

Barebones setup.
cIOS (v11 beta1)
HDD FAT32 MBR 1 partition
Wii, USB is plugged into the correct port.
Fresh "install" meaning WiiFlow on SD card, no forwarder, bug works on any console I throw a HDD setup at.

so v.5.5.4 beta 2 works?
but beta 3 doesn't?

i wonder if this is true for @OfficialRammy

We haven't been able to test beta 3 of 5.5.4 because I don't have it. But, if you want, we can try it. If you share it with us, we could test it with several people and then tell you the results.

Hey @fledge68 sorry I took long getting back to you with testing.

I can confirm both Beta 2 & Beta 3 are working fine for me. From my understanding, It's 5.5.4 and 5.5.4 beta 1 which has given me the HDD detection issues. Whatever you have changed has done the trick for me :D

And most people don't know, but to notice differences between 1080 vs 4k, you must be close to the screen. https://www.howtogeek.com/818835/whats-the-best-tv-viewing-distance/
  • Veho @ Veho:
I do everything on my PC monitor, I'm as close to the screen as it's possible to get.

It's wild 4k was invented in 2006 kids are gonna grow up never experiencing 1080
  • Veho @ Veho:
So basically, software and console side, HDR means the brightness level now goes from "0" to "2" where "1" is the brightest that older monitors could go.

  • Veho @ Veho:
And SDR just goes from 0 to 1.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Upscaling is just as good as HDR imo
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Alot of cheap TVs HDR is just upscaling
  • Veho @ Veho:
HDR is about color and brightness, not resolution.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yes and TVs have software that can make it look just as good
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Upscaling to 4k just copies and adds pixels next to existing pixel to make the image bigger. Sometimes upscalling makes the image look worse even. blurry.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It depends on the amount of nits per TV
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If you get a 250nit TV with HDR the 400nit TV is going to look better without HDR
  • Veho @ Veho:
Upscaling sometimes resamples images. It's just just a "closest neighbour and then some" duplicating, you have directional gradients, multidirectional gradients, all sortsa bullshit.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Nits is brightness
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah and a dull bright display is going to look like shit Compared to a brighter that's the pointin LED brightness
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But that has nothing to do w upscaling
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It does because if you have those features and a dull display what's the point
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Hence some cheap display claim to have HDR but it's just upscaling
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Hdr is the color spectrum tho, not resolution

And if you got a dimm ass display what's the point of having any fancy name option

Nitts have nothing to do with resolutions

Software and level of brightness play a key role in picture quality HDR is like an expensive filter added by manufacturer

I notice the 4k difference in blueray movies but not much in games. But the HDR is noticeable in games. I'm on a 4k 120hz Tv and Series X. I imagine games will get better tho.
