I think I need to try this, but find it weired that all 3 system I have tested results in no image. Parhaps 480i is the default settin?

It does default to 480i, but I'd expect that to work. It was 240p over component that is the problem with most tv's.

Some of those wii hdmi adapters will upscale to 720p or 1080p, which should be fine.

IIRC no matter what setting is, the system will boot in 240p. Which at the time was safe, now it's not because someone working in a chip design firm decided to make it not work on new TV's when using component.

I just checked my bedroom TV and it has both a scart connection as well as composite. So looks like I just need the Orginal cable to connect to this TV to change the settings. But this TV also didn't like the 480i settings on the wii when I tried the Wii2HDMI.

That's so weird that everyone keeps saying that, when it's simply just not true where I live. (Pacific Northwest, USA)

When was the last time you actually looked though and what year were the models? I just checked Best Buy US and none of the ones I saw had component.

Well 2 pages said they had it but I suspect they meant composite as it isn't shown on the picture nor listed elsewhere.

We have several 4K's on display at work of current models, and most of them still have it. I looked just 2 months ago and saw them.

Well if you cannot find any TV with component input, then there are also component to HDMI converters available on the market, seems a bit overkill but this is a solution...

Hi i have tried several wiis (3) with an Wii2HDMI converter however my TV says mode not supported.

Is there any way to get the wii working on a modem Tv?

It's my understanding that the wii sends signal in 480i which my TV does not support
That just means that your UHD TV does not support 720p. Most of these Wii2HDMI converters output to 720. The only fix is to get an upscaler that supports 1080p.

I think this might be a faulty Wii2HDMI unit I had same problem with my old TV but when I changed the Wii2HDMI unit with a new one I got sound back.

No, If I connect directly to the TV everything works fine, but If I use a HDMI Switch the sound get lost my HDMI switch have optical audio out, and even a headphone monitor, the sound is on those but for some reason do not exit on the HDMI output, its weird.

I had to look around for a while for the TV I bought new, two years ago, for component input. Sceptre (a cheap brand) still had them.

Composite is sometimes still around, but component (YPbPr) is very rare on modern consumer sets.
Or it needs some kind of propietary component to jack adapter.

Is this the cheapest converter available that will work?

What is this retrotink 2x I looked it up on ebay and it looks like it was crazy expensive, about 200 usd? Is this correct? In my country people are giving away old tvs left and right, think maybe I will look for one free monitor or TV. But really best option would be for this to work on my main UHD TV
RetroTink 2x is an upscaler / converter for composite, component and s-video to HDMI.

They no longer make the 2x for some reason (probably to push the expensive models), so if you want to go down this route, you'll need to buy the "RetroScaler2x" clone made by BitfunX / RetroScaler.

Just a word of warning, the clone uses an old bugged version of the RetroTink 2x, so it will have problems with PAL signals.

Interlaced signals do not conform to the HDMI standard (same with 240p signals). Most monitors / TVs will not display any 480i signal, compared to 480p.

No they do not upscale to 720p.

It's straight conversion from component to HDMI - no upscaling.

You can see this if you have a capture card and look at the incoming video signal.

480i or 480p, depending on the Wii's settings video mode and the game running (Nintendont GameCube BIOS menu displays only in 480i).
