Hardware Wii w/ wiikey won't play GC backups anymore

Howdy,

A strange problem occured to me yesterday : out of nowhere my wii wouldn't play GC backups anymore.
When checking the disc channel it says it can't read them. I've tried with both NTSC and PAL discs.

My wii is at firmware 3.2E and the wiikey is at 1.9.

Has anybody ever had this problem / does anyone know how to solve this ?

It's likely that some of the solder joints on your wiikey have become loose or disconnected, assuming that your wiikey is soldered.

I had a similar problem, reflowing the joints fixed it.

Though this appears strange as my wii doesn't move around a lot, it's probably the answer seeing how my wii-backups also won't play now.

If you want to temporarily solve the problem, try standing up you Wii on its edge, or lay it flat. See which way gives you less trouble.
