I have been having probems with my hdd lately.
when i start it up sometimes my usb loader wont recognize it
and when it does, its fine, but after a while it makes some wierd noise and the game will have glitches, loading takes a while, etc.
i had 2 hdd which this happened, im not sure if it is the hdd or the format, but both drives are at least 1-2 years old.
maybe the drives arent supported? or should i get a new hdd? and will formatting the partitions into another format work?
i currently use wiiflow, i used to use usb loader gx, but it wont load anymore.

What kind of noise? Ticking?
Are they powered via a wall plug adapter, or via the USB cable. If its usb-powered it might have an auto-shutdown feature that is turning itself off. There shoulb be a way to disable that. More details required.

if your hdd is making noises then its on its way out, i would suggest getting the games off there whilst its still alive and possibly going for a new hdd

ive lost 2 hdds with the wii now. nothing u can do unfortuantly

it would make noise when in a usb loader, and while playing a game, and also makes a similar sound if not the same while putting a game on the drive.
do you think its still dying?
