I've realized why Nintendo's accenting the single player aspect of the Wii U with almost absolute certainty. Sure, it strikes a nice contrast with the Wii and gives them a good new way to market it, but it's something more tangible than that.

The controllers must be ridiculously expensive. Take a look at this.

    http://www.computerandvideogames.com/306518/miyamoto-confirms-one-wii-u-controller-per-system-only/

Miyamoto-san confirms that they'll planning one tablet controller per system. He would rather implement 3DS connectivity than multi pad support, and the only situation in which one would use two pads would be bringing a controller to a friend's house. Customers purchasing extra tablets is clearly out of the question for him.

Not only that but early reports of AMD's custom GPU for the console mention an eyefinity-like technology allowing for 4 simultaneous SD video streams in addition to the main display. So clearly the potential is there, it just doesn't work from a price standpoint.

That's my theory. What do you guys think? Can they pull off a single player console?

Oh and inb4 the Wii U's controller has a ridiculously hard and durable plastic screen to prevent expensive damage.
    Warning: Spoilers inside!

Even if they are indestructible, that doesn't mean people can't lose them.

Myamoto said this at E3, but after that there were rumors that this is still not a final decision...

Also i think a single player console is no problem, online play is going to be the mayor thing now for the WiiU.

Even I would find a large tablet controller that never leaves the house hard to lose.

But Nintendo will obviously have some sort of replacement system. I wonder if they can get away with not selling them in normal stores, though. Kids can break anything and the mums are only going to go back to the place they bought the console for replacement controllers

I say give people the option. They can make it where they buy it straight from Nintendo, so they didn't have to mass produce it.
The only problem with take your controller to someone else wii u, it is most likely that you would just do wifi.

It can't be single player console. It has be accessible to everybody.

They have to have multiple controllers somehow.

Imagine playing Madden with someone near you that can hide their plays from the big screen and you can't.

Vamp, it supports both the tablet controller and Wiimotes. That's their current plan for multiplayer on a single system.

If they are going with 1 controller per console, they sure need to step up on their online multiplayer.
However, playing online is never the same as playing with someone next to you. Party games, for example, kinda sucks when alone and would kinda suck online as well.

Also, where is the info regarding wiimotes being planned as 2ndary controllers? They have only said the WiiU will be backwards compatible with Wii hardware. That doesnt mean new games will support the old hardware...

They have said from the beginning that the Wii U (I still hate that name) will support multiple Wii (and I still hate that name) controllers. The only old accessory that you might not keep is the Wii Zapper, since a new one will come out.

I know. But the problem is, who get the umote? It is the new thing. I know it going cause some problems with some people.

Plus to have more than one will open more room for creative gameplay.

And the Wii supports multiple GC pads... Does that mean all games work with that? far from it... Theres only a handful of games that work with a GC pad.
Until an official statement stating otherwise, Im quite sure the WiiU vs Wiimotes will be the same.

(And yes, Wii/U is a terrible name, give back Revolution!)

No, they said that the W...Wii U (sorry, I had to bite my tongue to type that) will use Wii controllers 100%.

Idk if you watched E3, but someone asked why they didn't name the Wii U something cool like the Revolution, and for a split second he looked PISSED. I remember there was a comment box on the website where I watched E3, and as soon as they announced the name there was enough profanity to make a sailor flinch.

Those were strictly for backwards compatibility.

This analogy is poor. Developers can seemingly only incorporate offline multiplayer through use of wiimotes. The Wii did not require Gamecube pads for multiplayer. Your logic. It's broken.

I was under the impression that Wiimotes and nunchucks would still be the primary controller and the tablet is an additional shared controller, it features so heavily in the promo's because it's the new gimmick.

I believe that marketing angle was not their original intention, but was created out of necessity.

I think the games will support multiple controllers, but they will wait a while for the price of the tech to go down to actually sell them.

I think it would be a great option for them to add multiple support.
They kind of skim over the details on the WiiU, such as when someone at Nintendo said the WiiU has 3D TV support, but they aren't going to really focus on that.
And I think it would be great to use the 3DS as a controller.
It will make the 3DS be able to be even more powerful than the Vita if you use it with the WiiU.
If they add 3DS controller support perfectly, for most of the games, then i'll throw my money at nintendo.

We will be able to use Classic Controllers you know, and except for the touchscreen and gyro functionality of the U controller they have the same input options. Yes that includes the Wii U's analog shoulder buttons.
Though no Wii title to date have used them, the classic controllers still haves them. Don't believe me? Look it up yourself then...

Even though most of us are fine with using the classic controllers, some might find it to be a hassle since you first need to connect it to a Wiimote, which means that you've got to own one in the first place.
So I'm almost certain that they'll release some kind of wireless Classic Controller, just to simplify things for the new customer.
And don't forget to remember Nintendo pushed the actual launch of the Wii U until after E3 2012, the Wii U is still far from it's final form.

A wireless classic controller with rechargeable batteries would be great, especially if it came with the WiiU.
It would be very convenient, plus all those people used to PS3 and XBOX360 will be able to get comfy easily,
