Those were the days, man I was young, I decided to get testy and try putting in a Team Xecuter Mod Chip in and realized that I couldn't solder, man how things change, I can do the solder work on these small boards now no problem.

Yes it was XBMC, and yes it was originally for the Xbox.
I use Plex on my Wii U, and have been for about a year and a half. I wish I could make a client for it myself, but the most complicated thing I've ever programmed is a small python thing to make M3U playlists (I think my homework in Java has been more complicated but I didn't do those because I wanted to).

    There is a few factors:
Time: for a lot of devs this is the first time they can actually develop homebrew in the environment of the HBL. The SDK we have now to create Wii U homebrew is very poorly documented. As homebrews like the homebrew launcher and Loadiine GX2 have shown the SDK is capable enough for homebrew, but currently because of the documentation it means that devs need to be more devoted and spend more time in the beginning learning how everything works.
Popularity: The Wii U simply isn't very populair. If we look at the release of ninjhax, similar to this release because technically homebrew could be made before it's release but generally wasn't because of the FW needed. It took quite a while before the 3DS had some real (good) homebrews aswell. So if we are realistic we should expect the amount of homebrew for the Wii U to slowly increase in the next few months both in quantity and quality, but there most likely won't develop a homebrew scene like the Wii because of the lack of popularity and it's already quite late in the Wii U's lifespan anyways.

The PRIME of the 3DS is now, I will agree with your total statement

Eh, I wasn't that hardcore. Splinter Cell and an Action Replay were all I needed. :D

I was pretty young too. I was just about to finish middle school, according to the date I ordered those items on my Amazon account. January 2008. I need to lie down.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I actually think the PSP was the first system I ever softmodded, but I bricked it. Some tutorial about changing the shape of the waves by hex editing got me, and I was too lazy to go through getting/making a Pandora battery. So I just hid my PSP and told my parents I lost it because I didn't want to explain that I bricked my system.

You can't deny that to have a healthy homebrew scene, piracy has to take place before. No one gave a rat's ass about the DS/3DS until we got piracy. No one cares about the Vita (which is much better than the 3DS may I add) because there's minimum piracy and is way too complicated to set up. the PSP homebrew scene thrived after piracy took place.

You can't just say "no piracy" because most people won't give a fuck about the scene otherwise.

Unfortunately, piracy sells system. It's the truth.
This is why the DS and PSP sold well, they were easy to pirate on. If memory cards weren't expensive for the Vita, and if the Vita had a decent hacking scene, it would have sold more systens. Guaranteed

Not true, There was a great use of Save Editing and Rom hacks on the 3ds before the A9lh crazy recently.

    EDIT: oops misread nvm

Actually this is true, but he did not give any real argument but I will. If there is piracy there are people who want to put in effort to hack their systems, more hacked systems = more people who can use your homebrew. A scene with only homebrew has almost if not simply never been that great because most devs don't want to put the time and effort into something if they know only a very very small group of people is actually going to use it. In these scene's only homebrew that the devs really want for themselves on these systems get created (and released), this means a very small scene and usualy also very user unfriendly homebrew because it was not made for everyone just for the dev who then decided heck why not share it eh?
The same is also true with the 3DS, a lot of homebrew came after 9.2 got piracy. Why? Because there were now people who wouldn't hack there console for JUST homebrew but who would for piracy. For those people (which is the majority) homebrew is a fun bonus, not the main draw of a hack.

Especially that memory card thing, that kept hackers, non-hackers, essentially most people who are not hardcore sony portable fans away (or the rich).

I'm still actively working on two Wii U homebrew games. Just sit tight. Good things come to those who wait! :D

theres several devs working on different kids of projects ,, i think in creating this thread youve so far given them a week to come up with something ..

there was one post since the wiiu kernel exploit landed on the libretro , was just some dude informing them of the kernel.. nice of him to quote me in it too lol...

but a stable enviroment for an emulator is in the works.. i wont say more as its unfair on the dev..

You actually have one of those? :blink:You're the first I've heard of having one lol, I think those are way better than those Retron5 :P I heard you can even dump your own games into the internal storage. But as for Wii U homebrew, things are slowly but surely picking up.

Absolutely, if the vita simply used micro SD's, I'd have one by now, but currently because it does not, that ends up being the bottleneck, because the prices of the memory cards art outrageous.

Have to say that although I've read the thread, it is kinda odd that we dost not have a doom port yet. Everything under the sun can run it pretty much, so a doom port has kind of become tradition in mah opinion, up there with "Hello World" almost.

And people who are against it would like to make us think otherwise, Wii, PSP and DS sold well because of piracy, which is ironic.

KODI is former XBMC, right. Nowadays it's ported to Windows, Linux, OS X, Android and god knows what else.
So it should be ported to Wii U as well. ;)

libretro for wii u is never coming because I hate you all, just kidding I need to read, read, read more, then write, then delete everything, start again, read, cry, read etc. It takes time and I suck at this, but Im trying.
