Hacking Wii U HDD / vWii USB Loader GX / USB-SD Issue

Greetings all! I current and trying to have a setup where I have a Wii U formatted HDD plugged into the back ports on my Wii U that has my Wii U/Wii/GC backups installed. I then am looking to have a USB stick or SD card that holds WiiWare (for vWii) and Retroarch titles (many thanks to Vague Rant and ForgotWholam for the assist in figuring this out).

Here's the issue I'm running into. Having the Wii U HDD plugged in at the time I try and run USB Loader GX to access the vWii WiiWare backups, USB Loader gets stuck on trying to initialize that HDD - which it can't do, obviously. Is there a way to get USB Loader GX to skip this step entirely? Or am I better off trying to have an EmuNAND setup through CFG Loader or WiiFlow to point to the USB stick or SD card?

Are you using a Y cable for your HDD? the Wii U can't supply enough power with a single port, so you need the Y cable, otherwise the loader will detect the HDD but won't be able to access it.
