Hardware Wii U connect to the internet without gamepad?

Okay so, I know you cannot connect without a gamepad unless you use an ethernet adapter and I got one, tried it, nothing happened. Still says no internet connection. Any help?

You still need to access system settings to configure the Ethernet card...

You can set up the network with SystemConfigTool or Ftpiiu Everywhere but you're probably not going to use them without internet, unless you already have an offline cfw/homebrew entrypoint!
