I also noticed that if as soon as connection light comes on my remote, screen goes blank... Any further suggestions on this?

You don't need to worry about having a trucha ios. If you have a banner brick you can fix it without trucka using SSBB. But if you don't have a banner brick and have a semi bricked Korean wii, you can't fix this. I helps when you know how the wii was bricked. Get that gc controller, if it shows 3.2k your screwed. If you have korean text and the health screen and a korean menu version you should be able to fix it. If you have english text and a usa/euro menu version you should be able to fix it. If you have english text and korean menu version, that likely can not be fixed.
Once you get the gc controller post what is displayed in the recovery menu, the version is in the lower right corner. If it can be fixed you will need to install a modchip on a compatible dvd drive to load any backup disc to fix it.

Did Nintendo start blocking Trucha at 3.2 or 3.3? If 3.3, then he might have a chance if his Wii is at 3.2.
if you try to use SSBB to fix it, make sure you tell your modchip to bypass the game updates. SSBB contains the 3.3 update. if you wii is on any lower firmware( like kresent mentioned ), updating from this game will remove your ability to boot a fakesigned discs. you probably wont need it to fix this, but it does open a whole lot more doors.
