Hardware wii says nunchuck disconnected

Hello Everybody,
I hope your New Year started better than mine .....
During the last days I was using very often the WiiMote with the nunchuck since I was playing Wii Music.
During the game I get the balloon from my mii with the ! symbol after the nunchuck icon

send the nunchuk to nintendo for repair or they'll get it replaced if your still on warrenty.

Borrow a nunchuck from someone else - of try yours on their wii - make sure its that part that giving the issue - then either return or replace it

Good advice because it could be either the remote or the nunchuck, so figure out for sure what it is.

Things like this can happen when the connector wire from wiimote to nunchuck is damaged and it could be at either end.

Some of the "jumping about" of the on screen cursor can also be related to the sensor bar, but not the other faults you reported.
Another thing it could very well be is the batteries. Do you use rechargeable batteries, if so check with brand new batteries, not cheap ones but a named brand EG duracell etc.
Some rechargeable batteries will look like full when you push "home" but they are not really and cause all the symptoms described, so worth checking out.

Very good thank's everybody for your replies.
I'll try borrowing a different nunchuck and wiimote from a friend.

Slimm regarding the batteries I'm using duracell and pressing the home button it reports 3 blocks of power.

These batteries are pretty new just recharged.

I'll try with new controller and nunchuck and report back.

Just for the chronicles.
I borrowed a new controller + nunchuck. These work very well on the wii.
Then I tried to put the new nunchuck on my wiimote and it worked well.
Then I tried to put the my nunchuck on the new wiimote and it worked well.

The weird thing is that now my controller and nunchuck work well and after 2 hours playing WiiMusic I got no more the message "nunchuck is disconnected". I'm now confused but till It last I'm happy :-)

I would think then that this issue is cause by a sync problem with the remote.

So if anyone else has this problem, I would suggest re-syncing the Wiimote and this should fix it. If anyone has this problem and resyncs, can they please post in this thread to confirm it works please.

I've had the same problem with using my wiimote + classic controller on my PC (GlovePie not seeing my CC). Resynching is indeed the solution.

Don't know why we never suggested this first

So if your Wiimotes act dumb, rule #1 try re-syncing.

Sorry for wasting time suggesting batteries etc when the solution was so obvious

I had same prob with mote and nunchuk, re sync'd and working a treat, thanks very much.
