My kids brother has decided he wants to get into RPGs, so I decided to ask here what RPG games you recommend for a twelve year old. He's not the brightest, though, so nothing too complex. I think an introduction to action rpgs would suit him better than a turn based or strategy rpg. I've got the systems mentioned in the title: PS2, PS3, PSP and Wii (I also have a DS but I've lost my flashcart). WelL I also have a decent PC I guess, so that can be included too.

So what would you recommend as an introduction to this genre of games for a 12 year old?

    Thanks in advance

Zelda would be a good choice. Its not violent and takes a bit of thinking, but no need to be a rocket scientist.

There was a game called Opono, or something similar for the Wii. It was RPGish I think and definitely oriented towards kids. I think. Final Fantasies are definitely RPGs but may be a little adult oriented for a kid.

    final fantasy
    kingdom hearts is always fun.
a few good PS1 games that will run on the PS2 you may want to look into are "The Granstream Saga", "Grandia" and "jade cocoon"
and get Skies of Arcadia for the Wii, it is a gamecube game, but is the best RPG on a nintendo console.

zelda is not an RPG ;D , although it is a good action/adventure with RPG elements. if you are looking more in that direction then you could consider the legacy of kain series.

Disagree, I traded a yoyo [lol 90's] for final fantasy 7 when i was 11 and I understood the story completely. That game was badass, so much to do, so much to fight always looking for better weapons. Its not really that violent, more about finding the strategies.

Plus its like $10 on the PSN [IMG]

Here a bunch of titles that I played which he would probably enjoy. Most of them are for console you dont own but you can easily emulate the GBA.
    Golden Sun
    Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Tales of ... (so many good ones)
    Final Fantasy remakes
    Star Ocean
    Mana series
    Mario and Luigi series
