This is another GC Homebrew, but MaxConsole is too dumb to understand it.

It's on other places too. And even if it's gc homebrew. Wii is running it. Gamecube doesn't even support full sized dvds, only up to 1.6gb or something??? Correct me if i'm wrong

It's a GC homebrew made for playing DVDs on the Wii: http://nintendo-scene.com/470.

By the way, I tried it and it works n my Wii with a wiikey. I used GCOS to boot it. The picture quality needs improvement.

Did you burn it on dvd or cd? (dunno if wii even support cds)
And what program you used to burn it? (mainly because i'm not sure what burns .dvd files)
EDIT: ok imgburn seems to work : D

I burned it on a DVD and I used clone cd. But, Imgburn will probably work ( just select the .dvd file and not the .000 file).

Edit: You can download it here:Team Symbiote Wii DVD Player beta 1.0 (from wiinewz).

OK my experiences. (pal wii 3.0E wiinjav1)
tried to boot without gcos. Got error probably because of 3.0?
Booted fine with gcos. Dvds worked fine (tried only one). It also played avis what is great!! (great with two !!)
And the quality was fine in my opinion.

Wouldn't have been too hard for Nintendo to include that anyway then.. lol :e
I think that they didn't add dvd playback because they would have to pay something for codec licenses or something else. can't remember what it was.

Can someone help me how to use it? I burned the .dvd file using Imgburn, and loaded the disc in my wii (I use wiikey). Then, after the disc is booted, a linux screen appears and it says it can't find one file (don't remember the name right now). I took the disk and put in my pc, and saw that there is a .rar file with the file the program was looking in it! But I can't decompress the .rar file into the DVD directly! Someone who has gotten this to work, could explain step by step from the beginning please? Thanx a lot ^^

You need to use a GCOS disc for the wiikey.

If we could somehow boot software without modchips, would the DVD playback work anyway? Perhaps Nintendo could implement DVD playback in a future firmware upgrade.

I used A GCOS disc, it booted normally, the problem is this file the program's looking for.

This is how I got it to work on my wii with a wiikey.

1. First burn the homebrew on a dvd.
2. Get a hold of a disc with GCOS.
3. Put in the GCOS disc in the wii and start the disc.
4. Then from the GCOS menu select "BOOT DVD"
5. Next eject the GCOS disc out of the wii and
6. Put in the Wii DVD player disc that you just made.
7. SELECT bootldr.dol and press A.
8. Then from the homebrew menu press the z button
9. Then eject the disc out of the wii
10. Put in desired dvd to watch and press start

I'm still having the same problem... it says: "Sorry, I'm unable to locate rootfs.bz2".
I checked the DVD in my computer and there is a rootfs.rar file with rootfs.bz2 in it, but I can't decompress it in the DVD directly! What do I do?
