Hello all! I have been modding an old Wii for a family member that was previously modded, it is all updated now.

Anyways, the issue I am having with this Wii is quite weird. When I turn off the Wii when standby mode is on, the screen goes dim and doesn't say No Signal like my other Wii would say. If I turn it off all the way (red light), it does this and works properly.

This is normal (what happens on my other Wii and full shutdown):

This is the weird thing that is happening:

Will this hurt the Wii? It is like it is not turning off the display when it goes into standby...

I would also like to know how to turn off the hard drive whenever it goes into standby mode as well.

NOTE: I have no idea if this has anything to do with it, but it is a White GC compatible Wii.

I've looked over a lot of used Wiis. Standby mode use over time cooks the poor things. A launch Wii that never used standby mode is likely still in good shape today. A newer, less used Wii, that ran with standby mode for a significant period of time is likely showing dimming video output today.

Spare the cute internet "features." Save the hardware.

I can most likely say that this Wii has never been connected to the internet to use anything online before, as I have also had a Wii that was modded by this person and they said to never update it, or it will get rid of the homebrew, knowing that, I can say that this Wii was never in standby mode at all.

Honestly, it is in a really good shape! That disc drive is VERY quiet and still works well! Way better than what mine is like...

Try priiloader's ignore standby setting
I do not see it in the list of System Menu Hacks. Will WiiLink still work?
BTW, I know that you were sick, how are you doing? I used your ModMii program to update the Wii! Also, the version of Priiloader it gave me was outdated, it was 0.91 instead of ver1.0..

Thanks I'm doing much better these days! My next modmii update will include the latest priiloader as well as some other cool things.
Oh, good to hear that you are doing better! Same with the ModMii update, can't wait to see what is next!

Back to your issue, it's not a system menu hack but an actual priiloader setting

Thank you for telling me that, is this way better than just turning off standby mode completely?

Does GBATemp have the usual "This website uses cookies" blurb popup?
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
It has the do not show again option which usually works
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
You can either accept or reject cookies.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Most websites usually has cookies.
  • lwiz @ lwiz:
Then really only other thing I can imagine is that "Deleted User XXXXXX" still shows the sig with personal website/gamer profile or whatever, but I'd think sigs are disabled anyway for deleted users
  • lwiz @ lwiz:
Couple of ones I do run don't have the blurb, as we only run domain local cookies for keeping login data etc. (no google or whatever) and those are legal under GDPR without any extra notification.
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
I assume they just have whatever cloudflare has
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@lwiz, When accounts get banned, email address and everything else is still logged, but not for deleted users (except for their profile picture and banner if they have one.)
  • lwiz @ lwiz:
^this might be an issue, although keeping the details for preventing further misuse probably falls in to the fair use clauses
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Temps been around since 2002 I'm sure they know what they're doing lol
  • lwiz @ lwiz:
Yeah. Of course wherever the site is located GDPR brought in further complications concerning the personal data of EU citizens
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
An entire data wipe just for one user sounds silly on any website
  • lwiz @ lwiz:
There are people demeding silly things because they're specail snowflakes and "in the know" even if actually clueless
  • lwiz @ lwiz:
*demanding - hate the keyboard of this lappy
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Well a site owner could say they deleted everything and still keep records of it not saying this site would just that they easily could
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Plus other users quote information so they have to go in and delete every quote they made to that user as well
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
And that has what lead to data breaches, because the companies lack the ethics of keeping their security up-to-date. They fail to understand and respond to protocols whenever they're told.
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Wanting just your data gone from a website doesn't have much to do with security unless two users leaked personal info admins shouldn't have to get involved
  • lwiz @ lwiz:
Well the user can demand to see all the data that's stored on them, and GDPR demands this in "reasonable timeframe". Even one month is reasonable. And as said, you don't have copyright on your part of "collaborative creation" so there isn't any law requiring the deletion of posts (and ruining the threads in the same time).
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Which is also silly within forums because you should already know the data you put in
  • lwiz @ lwiz:
(unless the said posts contain information directly doxxing that
    person)
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Yeah if a person is under actual life threat or info stolen that's when higher ups should step in not just wah I don't want to be part of this site anymore
  • lwiz @ lwiz:
Yup. Anyway, sleeptime for me, g'nite!
