Gamecube homebrew, but no Wii sadly. This is using the method talked about in the conference speech.

What is exactly the difference between GC and Wii homebrew?
Only the controller?
If so, I would expect a workaround that allows us to control 'GC homebrew' with the Wii-mote and nunchuck.

If I see what they can do with the Wii-mote on a Windows PC....

The thing is, if the drive code is in a non flashable area it might not be easy for Nintendo to check if the drive code has been altered (there shouldn't be any need as it normally can't be altered). But this is all purely for non-homebrew purposes (though of course GameCube homebrew should be possible).

But I would think the modchip would take place over the original bios etc, so updating the bios and firmware wouldn't be a problem...you probably wouldn't even notice because the bios and firmware of the modchip stays the same.

it will be the same story as with the xbox360 drivechips, microsoft cant do anything about them because they cannot remotely flash the dvd drive, same with the wii

Awesome, the xeno chip for the GC was a sweet bit of kit.

I wonder if it makes the machine region free as well? Doubt it if the xb360 is anything to go by but it would be nice. =)
