Does anyone know if this also opens the doors to homebrew software?

Wow that was fast. Here's hopping for homebrew support. Just hope it's real.

Gamecube homebrew, but no Wii sadly. This is using the method talked about in the conference speech.

What is exactly the difference between GC and Wii homebrew?
    Only the controller?
If so, I would expect a workaround that allows us to control 'GC homebrew' with the Wii-mote and nunchuck.

If I see what they can do with the Wii-mote on a Windows PC....

The second this gets cracked to allow the use of Gamecube back-ups, I'll finally sell my chipped Gamecube for this. Then again, it depends on how many wires are required for soldering.

One chip to rulle the Wii
One update tu f*** them all [IMG]
If this chip can be updated by xeno team against Nintendo update... why not [IMG]
When I say "update by xeno team", I mean... not like their website with 404 errors [IMG]

The thing is, if the drive code is in a non flashable area it might not be easy for Nintendo to check if the drive code has been altered (there shouldn't be any need as it normally can't be altered). But this is all purely for non-homebrew purposes (though of course GameCube homebrew should be possible).

If so, just don't update your Wii.

But I would think the modchip would take place over the original bios etc, so updating the bios and firmware wouldn't be a problem...you probably wouldn't even notice because the bios and firmware of the modchip stays the same.

It would be the drive code, not bios/firmware.

it will be the same story as with the xbox360 drivechips, microsoft cant do anything about them because they cannot remotely flash the dvd drive, same with the wii [IMG]

Awesome, the xeno chip for the GC was a sweet bit of kit.

I wonder if it makes the machine region free as well? Doubt it if the xb360 is anything to go by but it would be nice. =)

Region-free would make up for lack of homebrew
