Hi all. I have a strange video issue which I hope you can help me address.

My Wii is set up to work at 480p, and is connected to an HDMI cable via a Mayflash Wii-to-HDMI Adaptor.

Most NES Virtual Console titles work fine but a few (e.g., Baseball, Donkey Kong Jr.) produce no signal (black screen) unless the Home button is used to invoke the Home menu. Then I can see the game running under the menu.

Why is no signal outside of the home menu? I was told that the 480p resolution is forced during every emulated game once it has been set as the default one. The Z+A+2 combination is also not for 480p, but only for interlaced modes. Therefore, what can I try?

Issue happens in both EmuNAND and NAND modes.

Please let me know and thanks.

Again? How many times has this been explained...?

WII was intended to work with CRTs. It has ANALOGUE video signal. Totally different that Digital (HDMI).
The Wii changes resolutions lower to 480 between menus, channels and games.

IF YOUR TV CAN'T DISPLAY LOWER RESOLUTIONS THAN 480p YOU'LL HAVE BLACK SCREENS.

I mean... post a syscheck...

No, seriously, stop expecting an Analogue video signal to magically work with modern displays.

Some Wii to HDMI adapters wont output 240p and that is why the nes games you are trying wont work i had the same issue i had to get a different Wii to HDMI adapter.

Answering a few here:

- Most NES games work. How come 90% work? Aren't they literally using the same video mode?

- 480i is supported by the TV and the same games that work in 480p work in 480i. Yet, even in 480i the button combination Z+A+2 is seemingly not recognised.

- The console is a PAL one running PAL Virtual Console games.

Any idea?

I thought this explained stuff but I've seen a few games starting to work after showing a black screen/no signal error. For example, "A Boy and His Blob" started to work just fine after a few tries. I thought it was because I frantically pressed Z+A+2 in the menu but then I understood 480p doesn't even support that method.

Is there any option I can use on the loader itself?

Again: 95% NES games work. They use same video mode as non working ones. Some games started working after giving the same "no signal" error, while using the same 480p mode. I always had the 480p mode active (HDTV) therefore I don't get how those games suddenly got to work.

Is the 'Syscheck' bit some sort of joke? You even took the time to put that in Italics, for some reason.

Some older NES games are in 240p and newer NES games are not thats why some NES games work and some dont you can redownload NES game wads that are not in 240p and they will work or get a better wii to hdmi adapter trust me i have had this issue before. I bought this exact one from this add and it works with 240p perfectly. https://www.ebay.com/itm/173702175674

On a PAL Wii with PAL Virtual Console titles only these ones do effectively run in 240p/288p mode:

Baseball
Castlevania
Excitebike
Galaga
Gradius
Ice Climber
Ice Kockey
Kid Icarus
Pinball
Soccer
Solomon's Key
Tennis
Urban Champion
Xevious
Zelda II

Now: considering that Super Mario Bros. got an option to toggle between 240p/288p by using the Z+A+1 or Z+A+2 key combination from the Home Menu/Operation Manual page, wouldn't it be possible to inject this in other titles? I'm not an expert in disassembling Wii native code but I'm sure somebody here could have some pointer, especially considering that the 'FORCE PAL 60' option in USB Loader GX doesn't seem to do anyrhing.

I don't believe that 15 games alone deserve me buying a dedicated passthrough upscaler...

If you have USB Loader GX, your system is configured for homebrew.
Try running NTSC versions of the games. Most NTSC Virtual Console titles support 480p.

Sure. You can make VC injects using Super Mario Bros as a base.
