A few things. First off I changed up formatting by adding cool little text box thingies (forget the "technical" name for them). Second off, here's something new I'd like to introduce: community input!

If I missed a game you really want coverage on then simply send your write up to me (via PM). If it's good enough and follows proper formatting I'll add it here with credit to you! Check the "Other Releases" section at the bottom and see the bolded games to see what games I would want write ups for but am not all too qualified to do myself

Hadrian has also made his own thread akin to these after a long hiatus from the Games of the Week threads. You can read it here and I highly suggest you do.

Overall though, a fantastic month with plenty of variety and high quality games.

You can read the DS version of this thread right here

Some rules and stuff.
- No flaming. If I list a game you don't like, too bad. If I don't, too bad.
- This is mainly North American releases, sorry. I'll, on occasion, do a European or Japanese release if it's big enough and not already out in America.
- If a game is already released in English and is being released again for another region, I won't bother adding it. Like say if Duke Nukem Forever was out in America in April (it won't) and it came out in May in Europe, I won't list it for May. I'll also do the same if a game was released in English (aka Europe or America) and is being released in Japan.
- I get my dates from GameFaqs, Wikipedia, and IGN, so if a date is wrong don't blame me. You can, of course, point it out and ask me to fix it if you have the right date.

Wii Party

Developed by: NDCube
Published by: Nintendo
Release date: October 3rd (America), October 7th (Australia), October 8th (Europe)
Genre: Party
My Hype Level: A genre more dried than a raisin
GBAtemp Hype Level: It's a Nintendo game, who knows

So Mario Party kinda died a while ago. Mini games just started running out of any type of fun and by the time the Gamecube ones were out the steam was getting lost. So with Mario Party 9 proving that Mario Party truly seems to have lost it's fun, what did Nintendo do? Take out Mario! This just looks like another Mario Party game except with Mario, meaning we'll just see more boring mini games and a lack of excitement. Might be worth pulling out for a party just to try but it's still seeming very boring.

Kirby's Epic Yarn

Developed by: Good Feel
Published by: Nintendo
Release date: October 14th (Japan), October 17th (America)
Genre: Platformer
My Hype Level: Definitely worth a try
GBAtemp Hype Level: It's fucking Kirby!

Kirby really needs a good new game, seeing as he's joining Star Fox and others in what seems to be Nintendo's "forgotten characters" bin. With Epic Yarn announced and looking pretty strong, this may be it. Sure, it may lack some of that classic Kirby "float and suck" gameplay but it could just be an excellent platforming game, which is good enough for me.

NBA Jam

Developed by: EA Canada
Published by: Electronic Arts
Release date: October 5th (America)
Genre: Sports
My Hype Level: IS IT IN THE SHOES?
GBAtemp Hype Level: NBA Jam, hell yeah

Unfortunately I haven't tried a NBA Jam game yet, but this still looks promising. From the art style to over-the-top presentation it looks like a game that's worth trying. I was a bit worried when I heard about it going "non-exclusive" but luckily the Xbox 360/PS3 versions are just watered down pack-ins with NBA '11. So the Wii game is still going strong as an "exclusive".

Rock Band 3

Developed by: Harmonix
Published by: MTV Games
Release date: October 29th (America)
Genre: Music
My Hype Level: I love the tracklist
GBAtemp Hype Level: They don't like the tracklist

Maybe I've been too hard bent into 80's music by my dad's love of it, but I like the tracklist. Compared to how mediocre I thought Warriors of Rock looked, this looks like the Rock Band to beat Rock Bands. That being said, I probably won't be trying it for a while. I simply don't have the money to buy the whole set of instruments and there's many other things I'd buy before that. Maybe Christmas will be good for it.

Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes

Developed by: Capcom
Published by: Capcom
Release date: October 12th (America), October 15th (Europe, Australia),
Genre: Action
My Hype Level: The Wii could use a "stylish" combat game
GBAtemp Hype Level: Looks cool!

Well, I haven't heard much of Sengoku Basara as a series until the third one was recently released in Japan, but from what I've heard it's a "stylish" combat game kinda like Devil May Cry, which seems cool enough to me. Hopefully it'll take a good direction with using (or not using) motion controls. For the record, No More Heroes and MadWorld were both good way to do combat on the Wii.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

Developed by: LucasArts
Published by: LucasArts
Release date: October 26th (America), October 27th (Australia), October 28th (Europe)
Genre: Action
My Hype Level: Waggle fest but worth playing
GBAtemp Hype Level: Xbox 360 or PS3 versions instead

The first Force Unleashed on the Wii wasn't bad, but it was still just "throwaway entertainment". You pick it up when there's nothing else to do, play it once, and probably never touch it again. The Wii version also had all the flaws of the other versions plus a bunch of waggling to do, often being cited as the most waggle-heavy Wii game out there. I'm really hoping they put some serious effort into this sequel, fixing the problems throughout all the versions and making the Wii version less of a motion controlled gimmick. I liked the concepts introduced by the first game, I surely hope this makes them live up to their potential.

DJ Hero 2

Developed by: FreeStyle Games
Published by: Activision
Release date: October 19th (America), October 20th (Australia), October 22nd (Europe)
Genre: Music
My Hype Level: I don't like this music at all.
GBAtemp Hype Level: They'll probably like Rock Band or Guitar Hero instead

I just don't like DJ Hero. For all the cash you're paying it's still a one player game and two players costs another big chunk of cash. At least a Rock Band set is 2+ people support off the get-go. Not to mention rap music is just not my style at all. I'll pass on this one, especially since I don't have a peripheral.

Rock of the Dead

Developed by: Epicenter Studios
Published by: Conspiracy Entertainment
Release date: October 5th (America)
Genre: Musical Rail Shooter
My Hype Level: Game of the year
GBAtemp Hype Level: What?

Boxart appropriately sized much appreciated.

I posted some news about this months and months back, but this looks fucking awesome. What do you get when you combine Guitar Hero, Typing of the Dead, Neil Patrick Harris, and Rob Zombie in a video game? You get this, a zombie rail shooter where you slay your foes with the power of musical notes. I'm severely hoping this game is released and not pushed into vaporware, but if it isn't, expect me to be picking up a guitar peripheral and perhaps even buying this game.

Sid Meier's Pirates!

Developed by: 2K Shanghai
Published by: 2K Games
Release date: October 5th (America), October 8th (Europe)
Genre: Action
My Hype Level: Already got the PSP version to play
GBAtemp Hype Level: Not sure if a lot even know what Pirates! is

Boxart appropriately sized much appreciated.

Pirates! has already come to the Xbox and PSP, as well as having the Xbox version put up for sale on the Xbox 360 Marketplace, but a Wii version can't hurt, right? Pirates is just incredibly open world, giving you a ship and the freedom to do whatever you want basically. Raid other ships, engage in trade, attack towns, all done through a bunch of mini games. For some it may seem a little too open but to others it can be quite addicting.

Just Dance 2

Developed by: Ubisoft Paris
Published by: Ubisoft
Release date: October 12th (America), October 14th (Europe, Australia)
Genre: Music
My Hype Level: Fuck I hate this game
GBAtemp Hype Level: Not interested, thank God

I just fucking hate Just Dance. It's shit like this that makes shovelware so bad. It's a game that's broken and completely retarded but still sells millions of copies. It's just stupid. I mean for all that cash I may as well buy some music- hell, pirate some music, play that music, and start dancing to it. This is basically that with some shitty visuals and broken controls. This series just needs to die.

Super Mario Collection Special Pack

Developed by: Nintendo
Published by: Nintendo
Release date: October 21st (Japan)
Genre: Platformer
My Hype Level: Might as well just throw Super Mario All-Stars on an emulator
GBAtemp Hype Level: Probably will like

Boxart appropriately sized much appreciated

It's basically just a rerelease of Super Mario All-Stars but for the Wii and with some small goodies. Not really interested and it's just a limited Japanese release. Mario fanatics will probably import a copy but for me I'm just happy playing Super Mario All-Stars on an emulator. Or playing the GBA versions of Mario 1, 2, 3, and World.

Other titles

- FIFA 11: 10/1 (Europe)
- Def Jam Rapstar: 10/5 (America)
- Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest: 10/6 (Australia), 10/29 (Europe)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2011: 10/7 (Australia)
- Dragon's Lair Trilogy: 10/8 (America)
- A Shadow's Tale: 10/15 (Europe)
- Ivy the Kiwi?: 10/15 (Europe)
- Flip's Twisted World: 10/19 (America)
- No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle: 10/21 (Japan)
- Shaun White Skateboarding: 10/24 (America), 10/28 (Australia)
- Tony Hawk Shred: 10/26 (America), 10/29 (Europe)
- Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: 10/29 (Europe)

Overall Summary

It's looking good. For me, Rock of the Dead is the game to look out for, but Kirby's Epic Yarn and NBA Jam are also to be on the lookout for. Rock Band 3 looks great, if out of reach, while Sengoku Basara and The Force Unleashed look like some fun hacking and slashing. Wii Party and DJ Hero 2 top my "yawn" list while Just Dance 2 just pisses me off.

Next month is first person friendly! Goldeneye 007 finally drops and Call of Duty: Black Ops provides some more CoD action for CoD fans. A new Raving Rabbids game also may give some goofy party gaming. The big toppers here though are Epic Mickey and Donkey Kong Country Returns. Worms: Battle Islands also looks like a worthwhile Worms game for the Wii.

Have a nice October!

You forgot to change the link to the DS version.

Oh shit, thanks. I'm not used to having two links in the opening part of these threads and I accidentally replaced the link to Hadrian's thread with the link to the DS one. All fixed though, thanks

Wait i thought pes 2011 was in november?

It is for all other regions, it gets an early as hell release in Australia though (according to GameFAQs).

Fine by me, I'll download whatever version I can get ASAP, PES Wii is the best game of the system IMHO
yaywii.gif

Fine month, Wii Party, Kirby's Epic Yarn, NBA Jam, Sid Meier's Pirates!, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon and FIFA 11 all look quite interesting but they just fade away by the pure addictiveness of PES Wii

Rock of the Dead is going to KICK ASS. Too bad there's no licensed music in it, at all :\

That said, I'm disliking the DJH2 list so far, as I loved the blending of genres in DJH1 (It's $30 now with peripheral, and I have to say, it's pretty good... a lot of pop and rock in there to balance out the rap, as I too dislike rap) and this one seems like the Warriors of Rock of rap. I'll check it out, but the jury's out on the purchase.

And I already have Rock Band 3 and the Protar paid off. Wewt. :3

WiiParty: I saw a few video of this and it looks like the game MP8 should have been. Very polished game and I think with friends it`s going to be great!

KirbysEY: This game looks great. I loved every Kirby game I got to play thus far and this looks to be just as great, even though it is pretty different. Hopefully it will be challenging enough... Most definitely one of the greatest looking games ever and the things that can be done with the fabrics in the game makes for pretty interesting game mechanics!

NBA Jam: Multiplayer with friends! Nuff said!

Rock Band 3: I really like GH and RB but at the moment I don`t play as much as I used to play.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II: I liked the first one, since I thought the controls were pretty engaging. The levels and structure however could have used a little more work. Don`t know how I feel about the control-changes in this sequel, since I found it pretty unnecessary to add the pointer. I would have much rather seen a (optional) WM+-enhancement.

Rock of the Dead: Wasn`t on my radar but from what I`ve read it sounds interesting
tongue.gif

Flip's Twisted World: I think this game looks really interesting and hopefully the genre of pure 3D jump-and-run adventure games won`t die out, since I love these kind of games but unfortunately the aren`t many of them anymore

Got a 6 from NP so who knows. I thought the game looked pretty good from the trailers...

Rock of the Dead looks so terrible I might just play it just to get a great laugh.
I almost died laughing at how bad the trailers made the game look already.

I'll be playing Star wars on my 360. Not a fan of the motion controls.

I might try Kirby-themed game: Epic Yarn. But honestly i'd rather play a kirby game, not a kirby themed game. The artstyle is pretty awesome though of course. About the only reason i'd ever play it.

I hope it's not vapourware....

I (might be wrong but,) remember hearing that the Wii version was put on a hiatus, and they were going multiplatform.

I doubt it, it's just a rather small time game and going multiplatform is probably budget they can't afford. They chose the Wii since more people probably have guitar peripherals and this game doesn't come packed in with one. GH3 is one of the highest selling third party games after all, not counting all the other GH and Rock Band games.
