The retail price is much lower than that.

Wii Fit received a price and release date for the Japanese public today, following suit with the rest of the updates Nintendo dropped on all of us. Requiring an entrance fee of 8,800 yen, which comes to $75, we're sure most of you will see this as a fair price for the new peripheral and software. Hey, you can't put a price on your well-being, right?

It'll probably be $89/€89.99. The price gets higher the farther you go from Japan to Europe, you know?
Example: Nunchuk - 1800 Yen, $19, €19.99

I'm going to try and get this one for free next year as I have a corporate way around it. I work for a health insurance company and they do this internal program called the 'Wellness Campaign' each year. Depending on what you do with various offered plans, surveys, studies, and so on you get points. Each point =$1USD. Stuff I find depending on how intense it is rates from 5 up to I think 75pts(for months long or very involved stuff) on the scale and you typically can do up to 250 a year.

These points work as I said as dollars. The caveat is that you have to buy something that maintains some form of physical or mental wellness. I did some poking a couple months ago myself and an employee on what we could get and not. On the DS I can get any of the brain trainers from Nintendo or 3rd party covered, perhaps some thought based puzzles too (need that clarified still.) They also will pay for an entire Wii too if you can get those 250pts because it's a physical machine that has the sports in box and can be used for BBA which is out now and also they said due to the full exercise nature of it Wii Fit is covered as well.

I want it, but I refuse to pay ever over $50 for a video game. NOA doesn't lower prices which sucks...so I'll just wait a few months through 08, earn 75pts and then go buy it. I'll fax my people the receipt and on my next pay check I'll get the $75 returned tax free.

No matter what the price, I'll probably wait to see what other games make use of the peripheral. Without the scale device, the game looks like an extension of Wii Sports, but perhaps not as entertaining. I anticipate it being one of those games you play for a week and then pack up and put away in your closet...unless other games utilize it. Surfing would be awesome.

My only concern with Wii Fit is that it will give the system itself a black eye. Betting on the fact that the game will be a short-lived fad, it may attach a stigma to the Wii, which wouldn't be hard to do. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
