It's just your standard warning, "You're about to do an update. If the Wii is modified, it's not our problem. Shut off if you don't want to update."

A Superman Halloween costume has a similar warning, "Caution: You cannot fly with this costume on."

US Wii with Wiinja Deluxe

Tested one Gamecube backup, one Wii backup; both work

Everything else seems to work fine. I can't get through the "downloading..." portion of the news channel without getting an error code, but I think my Wii was always like that. Plus, I can still see the scrolling headlines on the Wii menu, so no big loss.

Nevermind, my wireless signal extender had just decided to implode.

What about Gamecube games that don't use GCOS? Do they still work or am I going to have to reburn some GC games?

hahaha omfg "you cannot fly with this costume on". thats awesome. but anyway, so, cant the setup disc makers just change the disc id or etc. then? seems a bit too simple....hmmmmm.

I'm going to guess that the openwii post was either coincidence or intentionally false.
The openwii is based on the exact same method as all of the other mods, so anything that affects it would affect others. In fact, I'm guessing that any update that bricks the wii would brick all Wii's, or none.

However, it is possible that they are now collecting all IP's or Wii ID's that pop in a certain disk, such as the wiikey and various other disks for updating firmware.

Then when enough have been collected, ban them all from online games, channels, and updates. And by ban, I mean prevent you from using their servers.

Or, perhaps they simply disallowed writes the mod firmware somehow, and that is what is causing the setup disks to fail. Only time will tell us if it is the specific disks that have been blocked, or if ANY disk that attempts to do whatever the mod chip disks do is blocked.

As long as I have all of your attention here, I thought I might share my thought as to where Big N will go with this. My guess is that they have no intention to ever block modchips or brick wii's. The easiest thing for them to do is to introduce a authentication system into the firmware and games. Make the games require the firmware version, and presto. No more "backups", or out of region games. Unfortunately, if they implement this before the encryption is broken(if it ever is), then it may be the end of modding for the wii for a while.

Hmm, updated cause I wanted to connect to the Shop channel. Wii was previously 2.2E with both US and JP Super Paper Mario "updates" run. Chip is a homemade Chiip 0.9.1. Internet disconnected once during the update, but I just turned off and on and it resumed fine, I think.

Well, it seems to work fine. Wii recognized PAL-backup of "The Godfather" (didn't try to play though) and currently runs backup US-Pokémon Battle Revolution patched to PAL and Update remove'd. Tried the Shop channel too, worked fine. Only thing that was strange was when I was in the main menu of the Wii, PBR inserted, and went away for about a minute to get new batteries for my Wiimote. When I returned, the Wii displayed a message stating that the "Wii System files are corrupted." No idea what that means, I just turned off and on again and it works fine (as I said, it's currently running PBR).

I've said it before, I'll say it again. If they did something to stop current mod chips, I'd just turn the Wii's networking off and sit on the library of 200+ games out now. That's damn good for a $10-30 chip.

the "wiiconnect 24 is off" bug is still there with this update.
Although, no you get an error code associated with it. "FORE000002"

I wouldn't be satisfied with it there are barely, if any fully fledged Wii titles out yet!

I've heard reports that action replay has been blocked, not sure about freeloader though.

wtf.gif
you serious?!!

I just heard the Freeloader also doesn't work.

Non-Working (supposedly):

SD Media Launcher
Maxdriver
Action Replay
Freeloader

If anyone wants to check, go ahead.

mebbe thats a good thing. those third parties are gonna get pissed, and nintys might have a backtrack a bit on this whole thing then. possibly
