I've been given a Wii that won't read discs (original or backup) any more. Initially thought it was a faulty laser so replaced that but made no difference. After opening the drive to replace the laser it became clear that the disc isn't actually spinning. The following happens on disc inserrt or power on:
Lens moves to the centre of the disc
Lens switches on (red)
The lens then makes a couple of movements then gives up
Disc never spins.
I then decided to swap the drive motor - same issues.
The disc is free to spin - it's almost like the lens doesn't identify there is a disc in the drive and doesn't bother powering up the motor.
Any thoughts / suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick
