I'm wondering, what is happening when paper mario is inserted ?
Before the patch, there were no "game preview" in the game channel.
What's showing in the fullscreen game preview channel if mario didn't patch the wii, just the 2 buttons 'return to Wii menu' and 'Start the game" on a blank screen without the animation ?

I thought Mario had to patch the Wii in order to run the preview screen and boot the game.
But maybe it's just a patch to enable special effects on the preview screen (like rotation, or zoom).

You should be on the latest firmware already, so it wouldn't need to patch. I'm just guessing the patch is to remove the firmware for the people paranoid that it will brick their wii. Even if they are using the latest firmware.

On the french website he said he tested his patch on a new Wii.
so I thought the game could be run without updated firmware at all.

"(Testé avec Super Paper Mario et une Wii PAL neuve encore avec la version du firmware initiale)"
-> Tested with Super Paper Mario and a new PAL Wii still with initial firmware.

If it's still initial firmware, the game's preview might not show.

So, basically if you update your Wii before playing Super Paper Mario and have a modchip installed, you're ok? Figured I'd ask since I finally got my hands on a Wii today (LU5151

Firmware 2.2 has been out for quite a while now. Anyone with a new Wii know if Nintendo ships them now with a newer firmware, or are they all loaded with 1.0 like at launch? It would seem they'd put a fairly newer firmware on new Wiis coming out.

A friend has a new Wii, and I know it resets the date to something like March 1, 2007 when you take out the batter during chip install. So if they adjust the time on newer machines, I figured they'd do similar with the firmware...

Forgive me for being stupid perhaps but would this not break signing or is it and entrypoint change in a unsigned header or something?

That wii-addict forum is shaping up to be a good news source as well.
