Hi.
I just bought a Wii black (limited edition) and I fully softmodded it:
cIOS v14, Hermes cIOS v4, cMIOS v10, NeoGamma r7 autoboot and USB Loader CFG v48b,
but it can't read any DVD-R or DVD+RW... it returns read error 1120
It's due the infamous D3-2 drive :/

USB loading is perfect, but, damn, I can't watch my collection of DivX
and install my backups using the Wii

Can I change the DVD drive with an old D2 or I must put a modchip ?

Some modchips enable the DVD-R reading, so I guess it's not a hardware blocking.
There will be an hacked firmware like on XBOX360 ?

Cheers

Seeing that the motherboards are likely the same, just buy a D2B or D2C or something and install that. Sell the D3-2 on eBay. Saw a D2B for $78 recently. Probably can find them cheaper.

There are no modchips for D3-2 drives yet. New drive or waiting is the solution. The D3-2 drive is missing the DVD Video commands that are used by cIOSes to read backups/warez. We can't abuse what doesn't exist. A chip typically disables the burnt disc protection, so the normal read method can work with backups.

No hacked firmware for the drive, since we can't reflash them. If we could, drive flashing would have been a better solution vs. cIOSes and loaders.
