I haven't invested in a external hard drive because of lack of funds but, I do have a couple of backups on a 16gb usb stick flash drive... so is there a backup loader that will read and play games off a usb stick flash drive?

    Surely! Format to fat32, and it's a go :)

    USBLoader GX works fine

If your flashdrives give you trouble, then it's probably not the software. The Wii seems to have problems with most flashdrives. Just try another one, get a USB to SD adapter, use the built in SD slot, or get a proper USB HDD/SSD.

my games are .wbfs format... but, they were in folders... I'm going to try taking them out of the folders and trying again because nothing beats the plan of the ol' trial and error :)

Use something like Wii Backup Manager (on your PC) if you're having issues. It does everything automatically for you (you can even use an ISO file, and it'll convert it for you on the spot).
