My friend also got 2 of his headphone's right side not working after plugging them to the computer and having to answer a popup "the plugged device is not a microphone, do you want to switch the used port to output mode?"
do you often plug your headphones in device auto-detecting ports?
for example, computers with single plug which can detect whether it's a microphone or a headphone/earplug?
the hardware probably sends a signal or an impulsion on the right-side element (the same one used by microphones) and shortcuts or fries it. maybe first prices headset don't have proper protection or doesn't like the auto-detection method sent on the mono (not stereo) port?
