Why is there no separate section for PlayStation One on the site?

Hello, fellow gamers! This question might have been raised before on the site, but I’m still curious - why is there no separate section for PlayStation One? I’m sure it has a large fanbase, just like the Game Boy or Xbox. I wonder if there are any plans to add such a section. Thanks in advance for your response!

Probably just because not many people talk about it. There’s a catch all forum for retro systems not listed, so by all means use that.

The PlayStaton was just a PHENOMINAL console, and in my opinion woke up adults all around the world showing them that videogames are no longer just for kids. Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, the WipeOut series, these games really infiltrated the homes of millions of people who've barely ever even used a controller. It was PIVITOL in creating the videogaming market that we now have today. Did you know that the gaming industry brings more revenue than the film and music industry combined? That is just nutz!!!

Because you are a new user. If you look on the main section of the forum, each console is categorized into forums. Older consoles that aren't listed like the PS1, Original Xbox, etc., will be under 'Older Platforms & Oldies'.

I don't think we need more forums for every console, it can make it difficult otherwise.

Yet many games in Japan were censored at Playstation 1 version while they were uncensored at Sega Saturn version like Policenauts. Lol! Even at the West many Japanese games were censored by Sony at localization like Bust a Groove. So much for "mature" audience. Same shit with Playstation 2: games like BMX XXX were censored at Playstation 2 but uncensored at Xbox and "babyish" Gamecube.

Mega Drive in America was also guilty for that shit since it bragged about being more mature than Nintendo consoles. Just because they allowed mature games from third party companies doesn't means that Sega of American didn't censored and butchered their own games at American localization. And they kept doing that even at Dreamcast era.

Holy shit, you're right, that's pretty bad stuff! The developer of this game, at the very least should have been given a serious strike on the wrist for that kind of content.

Does anybody here remember a game called Kakuto Chojin released exclusively on the original XBox? There's a stage on it that has Muslim/Arabic chants in the background that are offensive to Muslims and other people all around the globe. See here:

Anyway, I own a copy of the game simply due to its controversial content. Not because I want to offend other people, but simply because it's an unusual piece of videogaming culture. I recall having played it like twice, so for me it's just a piece of history, good or bad.

Oh well, it makes me wonder why both of the games we're discussing had content that went right past the ESRB. Oh well, SHIT STUFF HAPPENS!!!

To answer the question, it's the same reason as there is no extra section for PSX and I mean ACTUAL PSX, not wrongly named PS1 (not to be confused with PSOne). Check how many consoles are out there, making a section for each and every one of them just to have half of them practically dead is not the best idea of the year.

A while back, there was a clean up and some forums were consolidated. The retro section used to be great and most of my time was spent there, but then they changed it up and now it's barely a shell of its former glory. Not all changes have been for the best.

If you have a look inside the consoles with their own sections you'll notice most of the topics inside them are centred around hacking them.... now whilst I believe there still is a homebrew community for the PS1, it's small and rather specialised ...I'm sure google would help you find a more suitable place for that. The Temp covers more the broad spectrum of machines, so naturally focusing on the newer, more popular machines is a better idea.

And if you simply want to bleat about how good the glory days of the good ole PS1 were, nowt wrong with making a topic about it in the retro section - I'll join in, loved the machine! But one topic is all that really needs isn't it....

I like seeing the retro consoles get some attention. I remember how strange the 5th gen was. After the NES and SNES, the industry seemed like it was moving in a pretty predictable direction. My younger self would have put money on the N64 for 1st place, the Sega Saturn for 2nd, and the Sony PlayStation for 3rd. Knowing the development histories, from the SNES CD to the Saturn's rush to market, it's easy to see why things ended up how they did. The PS1 had a great library and paved the way for the PS2.

I recall an old Sony forum where they had every console in a separate sub-section. The problem was that the community was too small to be quarantined off. I recall even suggesting only one or two sub-sections to improve engagement to the mods, but they felt I was a troublemaker. With all that in mind, I'm personally fine with older consoles being in one sub-section.

I came here wondering this, too. It does makes sense if the PSX forums were dead but wouldn't an "all others" section under that console/handheld section cover it well enough and give people a central forum that would be a space for just about any niche of less common game devices?
