Hello there

So what I have just noticed first, that it takes a lot of time to save when I caught a Pokémon, or manage the boxes, or even just select to move Pokémons in the boxes even though I didn't even touched any of them.

But in Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, it takes nothing to save, it's just as fast as a normal save.

So, I want to know, why? And, can I somehow speed it up?

If you have it on flashcard, then it goes fast.
If you have the original... It goes slow

Well of course I'm not talking about the original because I know it's slow as hell.

But I wonder now how slow Platinum must save if it's this slow on my card.

Yep, maybe do you use a 4GB Kinston Microsd?

No, Original Made In Japan Kingston 1GB.

QUOTE(ItsMetaKnight @ Sep 22 2008, 07:41 PM) Takes about half a minute to save.
Original? If not, what brand/size card?

pokemon platinum has a twice as large savefile compared to other pokemon games.
and your flashcard might not be that fast with saving data.

also, changes in your PC boxes usually double your savetime.

I have the same MicroSD and noticed 2-3 times slower save times when saving Phoenix Wright games on my R4DS.
I tried on my 2gb kingston taiwan and its identical to original cart.
Must be the microsd card.

When it says saving a lot of data it saves every stat about every single one of your pokémon, in the party/boxes + all the opponents you have beaten plus a whole load of other stuff - which is, as it says, a LOT of data

Well SanDisk cards have the fastest save time, as far as I know.

Anyways I've just found an 1MB Platinum save and I've just copied my data to it so now with 1MB, it's still have the same save time.

I don't think so because when I only beat trainers or do anything beside touching the BOXes or catching a Pokémon to BOX, it's saves fast.

What I meant was, when it does say a lot of data, it saves a whole lot of stuff

When it doesn't then it is probably just basic things like position, stats of party pokémon (only), trainers beaten etc. hence it is much faster.

Um, so, anyone?

The thing is, I really dunno why it takes so long when you catch a new Pokémon, because just see it this way:

The game saves it first time, takes long.

Then second save right after, it was fast.

The question is, why does it's faster the second time?

i believe the general pokemon games have 4 sections in the save(platinum has a 5th for battle recorder)
in d/p/p the saving somehow got slower than on the GBA games, to save time the game has 2 save systems.

1:quick>the game only saves section 1 and 3(progress data, and progress data backup)
2:full>the game saves section 1(progress data) 2(box data) 3(progress backup) 4(box backup)

with 2 it goes slow and the game says it's saving a lot of data.
with 1 it goes fast.

2 is only done when changes are made in the boxes in your PC.

this info might vary a little with the actual system used, but it's to give you a general idea of why saving sometimes takes longer.
