Hardware Why is my dual shock controller charging now?

OK so I stopped playing Ni no Kuni about 12:30 am. Today I was ready to play again at 2 pm. Dead dual shock controller and not charging. The dreamgear bed has two charging cradles for dual shock. The move controller was charging. I put the controller on usb to the dreamgear bed, the PS3 and my PC. I reset the controller. Finally I left the dead controller on the dreamgear cradle. Now it is charging.

It would be helpful to know what went right or what went wrong so that I know what to do next time.

Probably to much power was drawn from the cradle to the move controller.
If you really think it's faulty, return it and ask a new one.

So I played for a couple of hours and now the controller is dead again and no charge light is appearing.

OK now a charge light has appeared. However, when I took the controller off the charging dock and put it on usb so that I could keep playing the light went out.
