Why do you think is the current USA government sailing this economic course?

Donald Trump comes in office when the US economy was doing better than most other countries (but, admitted: could've been better). In little over a month, things go pretty south, especially compared to campaign promisses.

Unlike most economic crises, this one has roots directly in the current president's actions (tariffs, trade war, mass firings, mixed messaging,...). Whether you agree or not can be discussed in said other thread. Here, I want to check a poll on the WHY of it all.

My view isn't exactly neutral, but I'll respond after a while as to keep this OP somewhat objective. What I'm interested in is your idea on what the US should do. Continue restricting your markets? Lay off everyone but Trump himself from the government? End this tariff war? Annex Canada?

i'm all ears.

IMO the reason is pretty simple, market manipulation.
Trump and his billionaire buddies want to squeeze the economy to be able to buy up more of the market, once smaller businesses start caving under the pressure and are forced to sell.
Though the government cuts are unlikely to be directly related beyond making mergers and consolidations on the market easier, the main purpose of those is most likely consolidating more power in Trump's hands by ensuring only loyalists remain.

EDIT: If Trump completely lost his marbles it might also be used as an excuse to start a war with Canada / Greenland to try and annex them. Dude wants to look strong and manly and what better way to do that than by "growing" the US's landmass?

on the note of annexing the 2 i sadly agree though one thing you might not know the military MUST Disobey the CIC if the orders are deemed illegal by any laws (including those set by NATO, post WW2 treaties etc) pretty sure declaring war without just cause against an ally is against international law) that also is a green light for a overthrow backed by the US military (they won't let this slide trust me)

After Trump want to add another 200% tariff on champagne and wine from EU, i find the situation
rather tragic
He want this because the EU has responded on tariff on whisky from USA, and maybe steel and aluminium
