Why do swimmers pat themselves dry?

I mean, professional swimmers. I see them. They pat themselves with towels. Some rub the towel all over their body. Some just lay the towel over them and let the towel do the work. Are swimmers covered in vaseline? Is that why? They don’t want to rub the vaseline off. Maybe it’s babies oil? Sup wit swimmers!?!

When you just throw the towel on it creates a certain level of suction that reaches equilibrium pretty fast - and the towel stops absorbing more water
