Seriously to me personally, I have no patiente for the people falling on the X - Y problem, that crisp my nerves!

Do you remember when people were worried about The Simpsons being a bad influence? Or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles encouraging violence? How about video games rotting the brain? The internet was the final boss all along.

The internet teaches us to be scatterbrained with several tabs and windows going at once. We're rude to each other online because we're just usernames, who cares? We hide in our private discords and facebook groups, so we never encounter people with different opinions. We've turned Reddit into a troll's nest because it's easy to make big claims and just vanish. We babysit Wiki articles because we have no better hills to die on. The dynamics of Onlyfans speaks for itself.
On Argentina the liberals (called pelipintadas) with their female ministery PROHIBITED Dragon Ball on all Argentinan territory because «increased the rape culture» CLOWNS!!!

Fuck feminists for becoming government officials, all should rot in hell, including the government. :D
¡VIVA LA LIBERTAD CARAJO! dice Milei

(Long Live Liberty Damn it!, as use to say Milei -New Argentinian President-) One of the first cuts on the government of his mandate was: all genre policies TO TRASH!!! 1 Ministry, 18 secretaries, and 2500 people OUT OF THE GOVERNMENT. after that prohibited all «inclusive» language on official documentation.

It just makes me wonder why. It doesn't bother me that much, but I don't understand the point of commenting on a help thread without any intention of helping. Is it cathartic? Does it provide some sense of joy?
Because people love to be assholes for the sake of being assholes.

Something I noticed on Reddit is that giving non-answers, sarcasm, and really not helping is what's rewarded. I think people believe that is the same on other sites.
LITERALLY THIS, it's either that on there or people who piggy back on the problem itself by stating "I've had the same issue have you figured it out?" or just outright suggesting something that has absolutely nothing with the situation at hand. one of the sole reasons why i don't use that site.

Many atime, people are just sick and tired of answering common questions that are easily solved with a Google search, so they'll downplay or disregard your need of help. Using a forum's (or Discord's) search function helps, as well as various Reddit posts. Sometimes YouTube setup guides have the answers. I tend to not bother people with something until I've exhausted all my typical search angles first.

I personally so many times the only thing my mind thinks about after reading some questions on the forums is RTFM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but then I leave the tab open, do something else, return try to give a short answer, but sometimes the only available one is still:

Definitely not.

No one is forcing you to write in a thread or in a chat that isn’t directed directly to you.

Also, with AI making search engines a lot worse than 20 years ago, it’s definitely not a thing anymore, especially if stuff you miraculously find look outdated.
Sorry, but I still disagree with you. If people need help, I still advocate that they need to help themselves to the fullest first before pestering others.

I'm sure this is a thing, but that's not the scenario I'm talking about here. I'm talking about being at my wit's end after searching down every possible avenue and finally reaching out to a community for help and being told to pound sand

I have no experience with you so this isn't about you.

There are people who only want to see the "right" answer to appear and the rest are all assumed to be from bozos. They think they are entitled and felt wronged when they don't get what they want. I tend to always give people the benefit of a doubt a few times and assume they are not that kind until it runs out and I disengage with the assumption that I could be wrong about them and we are just not compatible.

I once did a bad hire, this person was recommended from a trusted friend so I went into the interview already biased. During the interview I ask him why he wanted to leave his old job. He told me how he was badly treated by his boss, and proceed to complain how he was doing all the work and never got appreciated. I thought then they don't deserve this good person. It later turn out he was really bad at the job I assigned him, and he was very rebellious. After that experience I always consider both sides, not just the narrator's story.

There are bozos in this world, just perhaps not as many as you think.

There’s a huge difference between the person that doesn’t even know where to start and the one that doesn’t even feel like reading anything.
Yes, and a good way to tell the difference between the two is to ask whether they have, in fact, tried to get started and read something already. For instance, one could ask, "Hey I’m new to irc, and DDG AI suggested Freenode, but I got frustrated with it in a few minutes. Is this normal or has it experienced an ungodly amount of drama in the last few months or something?" If nothing else you'll spare people who are unaware of the ungodly amount of drama from also suggesting Freenode.

How would they know about it though? They would simply see a dead and hostile server, but it’s the most popular one (that’s what the machine said) so they just give up.
Yes..? The machine said it's the most popular one, and they would see a dead and hostile server instead, and that's a much more reasonable thing to ask about on a forum than "hey I'm new to IRC can you help".

Most of the above is spot on as is a culture of "I don't really know so I'll snarl something and feel superior in my head".

A lot of it does come from silly questions that have been covered numerous times and is definitely searchable that particular forum or through google but the troll culture will always remain as it's a pathetic "one up" to some people... Somehow!!
I used to be an active member of the subreddit for Metroid, and at least once a week there was someone asking for help on Super Metroid's infamous noob bridge. Instead of making fun of people, we always turned it into an oppritunity to welcome new players and crack a few jokes. This is how it should be. It's 2024. Negativity should be dying.

cuz a lot of ppl think anyone who isnt a genius isnt worth their time and unfortunately a lot of those ppl r the kinda ppl who hang out in niche hobby discords/subreddits.
protip is to pretend to be an idiot and act like youre right. if u do that then ppl will give u the correct answer to be all like "IM SMARTER THAN U AND IM ALWAYS RIGHT!" and they wont know youre tricking them and theyve given u the answer that u were looking for :P
